Explosives Found In Paris Department Store

Tue Dec 16, 2008 2:50 pm

Five sticks of explosives have been found and made safe in a top Paris department store, French police say.

The Printemps Haussmann store was evacuated and cordoned off, and police directed traffic away from the area.

French news agency AFP received a letter signed by a group calling itself the Afghan Revolutionary Front, warning of "several bombs" placed in the store.

This is no Afghan Revolutionary group. I would rather look at groups from Corsica as there was no detonator with the said explosives.

Is this what is meant by a "blowout sale"?

So if there was no detonator ort blasting cap attached to the explosives, they were perfectly safe to handle.
Lots of panic about nothing!
Also, if they were commercial explosives, they most likely have the manufacturer's lot number and the serial number of the box they were originally packed in, printed on the wrapper. At least in Germany by law the manufacturers, the explosives dealers and the end user have to keep books, where all serial numbers and their purchase, sale and use are recorded. So it should be easy to find out where the explosives were stolen from.
Since I've worked with explosives made in various countries, I noticed that practically all European manufacturers printed the lot numbers andserial numbers on the cartridges (we don't call them sticks).
