Celebrating New Year At Work

Wed Dec 31, 2008 1:08 am

The Weather up north is so bad that it looks like most flights are grounded due Fog.So us folks in BOM too need to await those Aircraft.
Seems I'll be watching the fireworks displays all around the Airport perimeter at midnight  Smile
The last 48hrs have been tough,I've managed to get home for 3 hrs before heading back to the Airport.
Anyone else scheduled to celebrate New year at work?

Not working this year. But, of the 22 years in aviation, this is the 3rd where I'm actually scheduled off for the holiday.

Have the option of a party near work with work people or coming home and celebrating with the parents.

Given the weather anticipated tomorrow (6+" snow) I might opt for the party but I like being home too so its a tough call

I guess this was random then.

Attend the party & quit early to be with your folks.

last night too the weather up north was bad.Its getting worse towards 2300hrs & clearing off after 0400hrs.
Tonight the weather report seems similiar.

Maybe next year New year will be on a holiday  Smile

I worked through the New Year's night, as well as through the whole Christmas, all by my own choice. I have done this often actually, I'm not a party boy, rather a party f**ker, as my friend calls me  Wink

One reason was that this winter/spring I need to work a bit harder, have to try to save money for my seven-month break from work later this year, partly paid by the state - I so love this Nordic socialism! ,)

RE: Celebrating New Year At Work

Fri Jan 02, 2009 6:20 pm

Our guys had this problem on christmas eve. They worked ahead during the days leading to christmas eve, finishing all scheduled MX and hoping for no unscheduled work. The airline was not flying the last two sectors of the day and our guys started early. Our boss told them that as soon as all aircraft were ready to fly next morning and all work was done, they could go home early, so they expected to be home by 10 pm. But our airport was covered in heavy fog for the whole day and all aircraft diverted during the day. The last aircraft arrived at the homebase at 2 am, so the guys only got home around 3-4 am, when all celebrations were long over and the families fast asleep.
I was running the shift during the few days before and over new year's eve. Again, I let my guys work ahead, so that on new year's eve we had no scheduled MX left and only a small snag. Since the airline didn't fly their last two sectors of the day, and we started early, we managed to be out of the airport around 9.30 pm to go the various parties. I celebrated with some pilots, engineers and cabin crew in a pub close to the airport.
