My Concept Of A Stimulus Package

Tue Feb 03, 2009 12:25 pm

Instead of throwing money away to these banks that spent it on crap, airplanes, super bowls and what ever else.

Why cant we come up with a package for the working class, I say that if you make less that $150,000k each "working" taxpayer be cut a check for a said amount ($5k $10K) etc..

What would you do with this money?... spend it?

I would pay down loans, therefore the bank will end up with money anyway, and I (as a hard working taxpayer) get some benefit from it.

this would not apply to children or those who are on welfare, or other government assistance.

Thoughts???
Let's hear from the people.

I would spend it all in clothes and shoes!!!!  Big grin

Seriously, instead of government intervention how about government contraction, make this year's budget 10% less than the total tax revenue collected. What a concept, spend less than what you make...

The government doesn't earn money, it only collects it. So, if it writes you a check for $5000, either:

-it is giving you your own money, in which case why collect it in the first place
-it is giving you someone else's money, which is not right
-it is giving you borrowed money, in which case you will have to pay back the principal plus interest in a few years
-it is printing more money, in which case the rest of your money will be worth less (or worthless, as the case may be)

I have a better stimulus idea. Get government out of the business of "fixing" the free market. It will only prolong the pain.

Give it to the porn industry. We all know they will put it to good use on their own definition of a stimulus package.

He would think it's unfair to the rich but would be the first in line to collect a government check. It still wouldn't be enough for him to buy/start his own business and I doubt he'd go get his plumbing license.
Perhaps get his old Chevy pick up siitin' up on bricks a set of new tires and a passenger side door?  Silly

Well of course. Most people would.
It would go to the usual stuff such as rent, utilities, food and gas.

As it stands now, these stimulous bills are only stimulating the already well lined pockets of people running their companies into the ground. It also stimulates votes from uninformed folks to crooked politicians who are probably getting campaign contributions from those who have recieved the stimulous. What a f---ed up system.

I'm happy to see that we have some educated people on board of airliners.net with probably a proper economic background or business studies at university?

These so called financial experts these days in the media really **** me off.

Thank you for your contribution. Welcome to my rr list.

We do not need a stimulus package.

Housing caused this problem and housing will bring us out.

The National Homebuilders Assn. Has started a campaign to make the recovery about housing first.

These are the two plans that Republicans are pushing right now. Senators Ensign and Sen. Conrad will offer amendments that will address housing

Enhance the initial Home Buyer Tax Credit:
Eligible purchases: Primary residences between April 9, 2008, and December 31, 2009.
Credit amount: 10% of home price capped at 3.5% of FHA loan limits (geographically dependent) — ranging between approximately $10,000 and $22,000.
Eliminate the recapture — a true tax credit.
Monetization: credit available at time of closing.
Available to all home buyers and not just first-time home buyers.
Couple the enhanced tax credit with a below market 30-year fixed-rate mortgage for home purchases
2.99% rate available for contracts closed between now and June 30, 2009.
3.99% rate for contracts closed between June 30, 2009 and December 31, 2009.

Put a bottom in housing and allow everyone who want's to get the 30 year fixed at 4%. That will stem foreclosures, start selling of existing homes and start employing people in the housing industry again. Housing is currently at 15% unemployment. While the Government is at 2%. Why do we need more stimulus money for the GOV?. Plus refinacing at 4% will free up much needed cash for many families who will then pay down debt and or buy more items. It is a win- win situation without printing or borrowing more future debt.

Thanks. No, I don't have any formal education in business, but I do like to pay attention and point out when things don't make sense.
