Large Hadron Collider to restart in September

Protons will be skirting around the 27-km Large Hadron Collider by the end of September, say CERN officials, with the first proton collisions expected four or five weeks later.

The lab will take the unusual step of running its brand new €3 billion machine throughout the winter - with a short break around Christmas "to allow people not to get divorced!" says CERN's director for research and computing, Sergio Bertolucci.

It's unbelievable how much money this whole project is costing. I am sure that all those scientists working on it aren't cheap either, except if they're volunteers...

Just imagine how much starving or sick people could be helped with all those funds.

Is all this spending going to be worth it, looking at the discoveries they hope to make?

Then again, with countries like India spending billions on a dream to go to the Moon while half of their population is extremely poor, I don't know what the moral standards are, if any...

Didn't know starving or sick people ate money.
Read this very carefully, I shall write this only once!

And it won't fix the problem. Imagine where we'd be if people like you had stopped the studies that discovered the electron. In fact, Ernest Rutherford once toasted the electron at a dinner in celebration of its discovery by saying "To the electron, may it never be of use to anybody!"
