Happy Anti-Valentines/Singles-Awareness Day!

Sat Feb 14, 2009 1:58 am

Happy unimaginative, consumerist-oriented and entirely arbitrary, manipulative and shallow interpretation of romance day to you all!  Yeah sure

And I'm still saying that regardless of the fact that I have a date for this weekend, because it's so true, like with X-mas and all other holidays.

So, how are you guys planning on enjoying/loathing V-day?

Here's my take on it, for now at least:

Most likely homework. Glad, I'll be saving a little money this time around. If I do get something, it'll be for myself. I'm holding out for the Easter Carmel Eggs!

Sorry your life is so miserable.

As I guy I actually think Valentines day is sweet and frankly its a nice occasion to refocus and express ones love and dedication as so often in our busy worlds we too often forget and take things for granted.

Frankly every day should be valentines.

Agree 100% why should we spend money on red roses fancy dinners and the like. If you love your partner why do we have to say it on one specific day( apart from the fact it is the last real big money earner for most corps out there ) I say it whenever I want and I dont need flowers cards or jewellry to do it

I'll probably spend part of my day tomorrow with fellow artists in the Bay Area, as we meet once a month (Second Saturday we call it).

I'll also start putting a lot of my stuff up on eBay tomorrow, so I can start saving up for a very special birthday gift for my real Valentine--my mother  Wink --a cruise to Alaska from San Francisco in September this year, for her 85th birthday! Wanna pitch in?  Wink

Oh well.

I never celebrate this stupid day with my girlfriend as we do not ONE day to give us little presents or tell that we love each other!

Same goes for Mothersday and All Saints day. Those days are here because of the flower industry. If I do not remember my loved ones ( dead or alive) all year long I should not do it on a special day.

Well, you're lucky you can celebrate Valentine's Day :

In the city of Mangalore, India, the self-styled 'Ram Sene' (Army of Rama) is going around beating up boys and girls who are doing immoral acts ( talking to each other, holding hands ect). They have threatened to get priests and marry them forcibly on the spot. Shops in Bangalore are closed today for fear of violence.

It's amazing how biological frustration can fuel bigotry and hatred. We need to invest in lap dancing in South Asia to put an end to religious fundamentalists.

I did some of my homework, baked my mom a cake, watched some house, called my semi driver friend, and talked to my friend from psych club to coordinate some stuff. In addition, I went to subway and ate a turkey sub. My final activity is baking a nice healthy meal and playing with my cat prince. Happy Valentines Day everyone.

I'm normally extremely cynical about Valentines Day and don't bother with it, BUT I cant deny that the romantic phone call and email I got this morning from my other half in Spain cheered me up. It put me in a good mood for the whole day. I guess when you find that special person things change including your attitudes to things like Valentines.

It seams that Valentines Day is a consuming conspiracy of Hallmark (cards), the flower industry, resturants and candy makers. Give only a card, you look cheap. Flowers only last a few days and what if you or your partner is allergic. Of course some guys have the delivered to their girlfirends/wife's place of buiness, I guess to 'mark their turf' or to show off that they ahve more money than brains or very insecure. Going to dinner at a 'romantic' resturant and candy, sure make her (or you) fatter. I don't mind some day to acknowlege love to your partner, but like too many days, it had become peverted by people making money by making you guilty if you don't do anything.

I'm single  Sad

Not that i'm too bothered. My now ex made me buy all this crap I couldn't afford for christmas, then ditched me xmas day. I'll be screwed if i'm getting done over again  Silly

Singledom is a far better way to live, at least for me.

And on that note, this year has gone far better than last year, and last year I had a girlfriend. My mate wanted her and gave her a card with his name on it, I confronted him (bad idea anyway, 5'9 and 13 stone to 6'1 and 24 stone!) and I ended up getting floored and whacking my head on a curb which knocked me out cold for a while. I came round half an hour later to a pair of dog walkers standing over me (this was about 10:30 at night when this happened). Massive cut on my head and major concussion.

The annoying thing is, we split up the day after and he never even paid any attention to her after that! I think he just wanted us to split up but he could have been a little less violent about it....

I'm single and without a job.

I might be able to hold out in my apartment for another month or two. However, I did not subject myself to Valentine's Day.

It's only fair.

I wouldn't want to date someone that doesn't have a job and with very few job prospects.

Thus, I am spending my evening with 3407 crash footage and airliners.net.

Those griping about the commercialism are missing the point. It's not about how much you spend. It's about the effort you expend. My favorite valentines gift was a giant cookie my boyfriend at the time made me and decorated. That took some creativity and effort but it wasn't expensive. That meant more than flowers etc. or some gift that took minimal effort to select and send.

I don't really like Valentine's Day, as it was never a tradition in my culture. That whole hype started here a couple of years ago and was mostly fed by TV ads of flower selling chains, perfume stores, and jewellery stores.
Thus, I don't need Valentines day...

I actually had a wonderful Valentine's Day. Took the red eye to Boston Friday night, was the only passenger on a CapeAir flight to Lebanon, NH (fun time sitting in the right seat!) Saturday morning, went snowboarding, had a nice lunch, nice dinner, went to a movie...good V-Day! Sunday was another great day (every day with her is), and Monday was great as well until I left. Happy Valentine's Day (although I am late in posting)!
