Is This The Scariest Ride In The World?

Thu Mar 12, 2009 11:22 pm

Walking towards Thorpe Park's newest ride is a nerve-wracking experience.

A vertical climb followed by a drop juts out of what looks like a disused warehouse.

This is the first view you get as you approach what is being billed as the most terrifying rollercoaster in the world.

And, after trying it out first hand, I would be in complete agreement.

Organisers say they have tried to give customers the full Saw experience.

It is inspired by the horror film series of the same name and the aim of the ride is to torment and terrify.

Certainly looks the part. I know a few Anetters like trying different coasters , so does this look like the ''scariest ride in the world''??

Some would argue that their ex significant others would qualify for such a title. Big grin

But from reading the article, that vertical drop looks to give some sufficient ammo to say such. However, it looks that the line is the part the spent the most time trying to psych up.  twocents

My first impression was 'that's it?'. Seems no worse than Sea World's Kraken. If you go on youtube I'm shocked at how many people record going on roller coasters.

Doesn't look that bad. If you want scary go to one of the famous haunted houses that pop up every year around Halloween. THAT is scary.

That's the one I went to. Apparently among the scariest one.

It looks OK, from the description I was expecting much more. Simply by viewing the video a would say it looks like many other modern "coasters". Of course the actual feel of each coaster is different as "airtime" has to experienced first-hand

If you want something scary, go to the Stratosphere Hotel in Las Vegas. They have 3 different rides at the top of the tower.

The scariest by far would have to be the "X Scream". It is the ride pictured on the link above. It is really hard to describe but if there are other members here who have gone on it, I'm sure you understand...  Smile

Yeah I was expecting worst. And it seemed to last nothing. I'm a big rollercoaster fan and they don't scare me but they do definitely give me an adrenaline rush.

The best one I've ever been on, and what many call the best roller coaster in the world, is the X in Six Flags Magic Mountain. It was the worlds first 3D roller coaster. Literraly, words can't describe how amazing that thing is!

Here's a review of it, and a website that rates other coasters: http://www.ultimaterollercoaster.com/coasters/reviews/x/

I agree, just looking at it was enough for me and my wife. Crazy people go on that thing.

Absolutely! I was there with my girlfriend over Valentines weekend and went up to the top. I have always considered myself a roller coaster junkie, having never turned one down. Mind you I've been on all of the ones at Cedar Point which holds many world records. Anyway, one look at X-scream and that was it. It was just painful to watch, I don't think I could ever do it, especially sitting in the front row. However, I did go on the spinning one, which wasn't much.

YES! X is an amazing ride...scary as ***t when you look at it. When you're on, it feels like the most surreal experience since at some points you are twisting and rotating.

Yeah, I was there in July 2005 and when my sister and I went to the top, the other rides had average sized lines waiting to get on. The X Scream however there was NO line. I was the only one in line for a few minutes while the operators waited for more people to show up. All in all there were about 4-5 of us and I was in the FRONT ROW! During the ride as with most of those thrill rides, a picture was taken and you are given the opportunity to buy a print. I bought one and sheer terror in my face was quite amusing (though not at the time).  Smile

It was actually a few months later 6 tourists were actually stuck on the ride during a power outage for an hour and a half.

I was expecting more. The roller coaster doesn't look bad at all....

I don't ride that many roller coasters, but I've been on my fair share over the years. I rode the Cyclone at Coney Island for the first time a couple of years ago, and thought I was going to die!  Wow! These new rides just can't match the Cyclone!

I agree. Those in Vegas and Kingda Ka in Six Flags New Jersey are not easy rides. That one looks awesome but beside the steep climb and descent it's just a regular thrill. It doesn't add too much to the experience :P

I love rollercoasters but I must admit that the one in the Stratosphere ( the one that makes you believe you're gonna be dropped but you're not) makes me real nervous just by looking at the videos.

More importantly... who can identify the airplane above and to the right of the gentlemens head at the 23 second mark of the video.

did I read that right? The thing got stuck at 5:45 and at 7:05, i.e. 80 minutes later, rescue teams were called? What the heck did they do in those 80 minutes? Drink coffee?

Just a side note, we have a Six Flags run theme park in Oklahoma City called "Frontier City." I haven't been in probably 15 years, but back then, they had sort of this IMAX theater thing where you go in and stand facing a screen. No seats, and they show you a movie of several roller coasters as viewed from the front passenger. It's fun because everyone starts leaning and getting off balance. Don't know why this happens, but it was really fun...if you have a big TV and video like this, just stand in front of your TV and pretend you are on the coaster and you will see what i mean.

Try Europapark's Silverstar in Germany... oh btw, I won't get on any of those things. Don't know why, but they scare me to death.

What shocks me is that even Sky News doesn't know the difference between "vertical" and "verticle"...
