Converting AVI File To Play On DVD Player

Thu Mar 26, 2009 2:45 pm

I'm trying to convert an AVI file from my digital camera to a file type that will play on my DVD player. Now since i have very little computer knowledge, period!, i'm asking for some help.

Is there any good freeware that can do this? I'm sure there is something out there but do any of you have a good experience with these programs and the easier the better.

Thanks for your input!

Get a DVD player that will play AVI files (Philips), or get the WD TV.

I think you should try convert to DivX. Here's an awesome software called VirtualDUB.

I'll go on a few assumptions here, since you didn't give much information.

If your computer has a DVD burner installed, you should have software to burn videos to DVD's. When I transfer videos from my old video camera (uses tapes), I use Windows Movie Maker to "capture" the video from the tape to the computer using a Dazzle Digital Video Creator. Once I have the video in Movie Maker, I can edit, and save the files as .mpg files, and then use my burning software to create my DVDs.

Once I have the video in Movie Maker

I use Windows Movie Maker, and it does the whole job for me to creat photos collections or movies from my digital camera. When I go to option of "record movie" it asks if I want to make a CD or DVD, and when I chose DVD, I've been able to watch them all on a standard DVD player and view on TV. Hope this makes sense/helps.... I'm no expert either!

Maybe your DVD player just supports Windows Media out of the box :] I was surprised by how many not too fancy DVD players do
