Worst Movie Sequels

Sun Mar 29, 2009 4:23 am

Though almost all movie sequels are bad which ones are the worst?

Charlies Angels 2

Tome Rider 2

Maybe a trilogy too.

Star Wars Episode III

Terminator 3

Godfather part III

Pick your own or expand on mine.

You can forget everything related to Charlie's Angels. Star Wars III wasn't as bad as episode I and II though. Agreed on Godfather III.

Another sequel I'd add to the list would be both Matrix sequels (The Matrix was good on its own, Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions suck and are superfluous), and Star Trek Insurrection and perhaps Scream III. There are more in the list but I'm too tired to remember their names.

Of all the ST movies, ST V is by far the worst. Though if we do TNG movies Insurrection by far is the worst.

And Ill add Police Academy 6

Star Trek V may have sucked, but it doesn't even remotely suck as much as Insurrection did.

How do you list Episode III, of the new trilogy the worst. It is by far the best of the three, IMO. How can you not like a fight with Samuel L Jackson in it? At least something happens in. Of the 3, Episode 1 is the worst.

It's an okay movie but the letdown is that we already know the story, it's just a matter of how it happens. Now some movies pull this off wonderfully, like Apollo 13. Star Wars just didn't quite measure up.

Star Wars III is not a bad movie it is just my least favorite of the Star Wars movies. All the Star Wars movies are good but the third one is the least effective of a good series. It is not necessarily about movies people hate.

You have a point there. That movie would have been loved if were a standalone, but lives in the shadow of the other five.

Especially II. Because everyone knew what to expect with II after seeing I.....and yet it still somehow managed not to meet anyone's expectations.

I mean, seriously, the dialogue (and the "acting" by Hayden Christensen) is just god-awful.

That one was a waste of 2 hours. I'm very glad they redeemed themselves quite well with VI.

I have still not seen Indiana Jones 4....but as soon as I heard there were aliens in it, I decided not to bother.

Hmmm, what else....

Saw II was pretty awful.

I heard from Access Hollywood a while ago that the failure of Speed II, Charlies Angels II and Tome Rider II prevented a second sequel from being made.

I didn't like Ocean's Thirteen for a couple of reasons. The hotel Al Pacion owned just looked real fake to me, the part where they made a earthquake just had me going Oh Geez!, and the part where Matt Damon puts that special scent on his neck to seduce Ellen Barkin wasn't believable to me.

Those 3 things just turned me off to the whole movie.

Alien 3 - completely ruined the franchise (as if you'd kill off Hicks, Bishop and Newt!)

Alien Resurrection - quite crap.

Airplane II - not nearly as funny as Airplane.

Alien and Aliens for the win, with Aliens perhaps taking the title of best sequel ever  Smile

Temple of Doom, and the crystal skull.

I love Indiana Jones and the series as a whole, but Raiders and the Last Crusade are simply on another level compared to Doom and Skull.
I only hope that once spielberg realizes how bad Skull was, he will decide to make another, last one, to better send off the series.

The sequel to The Exorcist prob called Exorcist 2 was bad and not even scary.

2010, the sequel to 2001 was awful cos the space technology seemed to be older than the original.

The Star Wars sequels were awful too

There are however some great sequels, for instance Men In Black. I loved the first MIB, and MIB II was just as good as the first.

While I'm no fan of those casino heist films with George "Has Been" Clooney, Ocean's Twelve did make them look more like regular petty thugs than people who invest their time in creating plans for a heist in a casino. Even Ocean's Thirteen is better than that, though I believe is the less bad than Ocean's Eleven and Ocean's Twelve combined.

And what about the Scream sequels? I found Scream III to be superfluous as well.

I know they don't really count as 'sequels' but I think it's worthy of mention - modern James Bond movies are just wrong in my opinion and are not a patch on the classic ones.

Also, seeing as we all love Airplane! so much on this site, it is worth saying that the follow-up where they go into space sucks compared to the first one.

final destination sequels.
they just got progressively worst. First you start with a massive plane explosion, then a big traffic accident, and then a roller coaster accident.
There is also ghost busters 2, and speed 2.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was the worst thing they could have done to that franchise. I had a good laugh at the southpark episode that made fun of it " They raped Indie"

And on a semi related topic who thought Top Gun was going to have a sequel? At the end when Tom Cruise said he wanted to teach at Top Gun I thought for sure there was going to be a sequel.

The first two Brosnan-Bonds, GoldenEye, and especially Tomorrow Never Dies (call be bias, but since Tomorrow Never Dies was filmed in Hamburg,...  Wink ) were actually good IMO. The World Is Not Enough was average, but it all started to really decay with Die Another Day. The Daniel Craig-Bonds outright suck. Though I haven't seen Quantum of Solace yet, something tells me it sucks as well.

Something that should have also never happened as far as 007 is concerned, is Timothy Dalton.

True story. That brings to mind the fact that he had a considerable hand in ruining what could have been a good movie, "Scarlett" the sequel to Gone with the Wind. He was a slimy, wimpy Rhett Butler. Add to that the fact that the last third of the movie totally deviated from the book....

I, also agree.Just not Bond.Bond seem to be portrayed a renegade again.Hated the editing,as well.

And I'll say it-

While nothing should be taking away in Heath Ledgers superb acting as the Joker,"The Dark Knight" seem to be in a contest of "Can you top this" series of murder mayhem.Didn't care for the script or the 360 degree editing."Begins" IMHO,was much better.

Quantum was simply a terrible movie. The quick cut editing was annoying, the plot was inane...when it did attempt to make any sense, the tarty eye candy had the emotional range of a turnip, the bad guy acted like he needed a spanking and, the fight scenes wouldn't have been believable on professional wrestling and come on...the goal of the bad guy is...wait for it...control over Bolivian utilities...? Sheesh.

This waste of time was obviously nothing more than a way to finance the next movie...which hopefully, has a different director and set of writers.

It's all the more disappointing since I think Craig makes a pretty good Bond.
