Wicked Is, Well, Wicked! What's Your Favourite?

Sun Apr 05, 2009 4:24 pm

I saw Wicked at London's Apollo Victoria theatre on Friday night starring Kerry Ellis and Dianne Pilkington. And, I can honestly say it is one of the best, if not THE best musical I have ever seen. Defying Gravity was phenomenal, as were The Wizard and I, What Is This Feeling?, Popular, Dancing Through Life and No Good Deed.

It is simply spellbinding!

My top 5 are (in no particular order, they all have their qualities)

Wicked
Blood Brothers
Miss Saigon
Hairspray
Evita

So, what are your favourites?

I found Wicked entertaining, but the music isn't catchy. Of course, Les Miserables is the same way in many regards.  Wink

I'd have to say that my top 5 are (In no particular order):

The Sound of Music
The Phantom
Annie
Sweeney Todd
R&H's Cinderella
Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.

I loved Wicked, I was lucky enough to get center tickets for row 6 the day of, I guess at the prices of $300 dollars per turns many people away, non-the-less it was full. I saw it on broadway and I really enjoyed it. I would have to disagree with the poster about the music, I found the music to be really good. My top three would be:

Wicked, Broadway
The Phantom, Broadway
and while not a musical Moulin Rouge, Paris
Keep the shinny side up!

I've never been to a Broadway-type production, to be honest. I'd love to go see Wicked, Lion King, Joseph, and a few others as well. I've seen the movie "Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dramcoats", starring Donny Osmond, and I just love it.

My daughter is huge on Wicked and Rent, although I'm not a big fan of Rent.

I'm more of an opera person, but I did like "Spamalot".

With ticket prices being what they are, nights at the theater are vanishingly rare for me. Here are my top five:

A Chorus Line (my all-time favorite)
The Music Man
The Producers
Crazy for You
Dreamgirls

Really like the film versions of My Fair Lady, Cabaret and (the original) Hairspray. Would love to see them on stage someday.

Saw "Wicked" late last year. Disliked it.

Love "Les Mis" and "Rent".

Wicked is the only show I've seen on Broadway, and it was quite good. Jesus Christ Superstar is another good one, but my favorite is probably Sweeney Todd, for which I played in the pit orchestra when my college put it on last year. The Dies Irae theme happens to be my favorite well-known musical motif, and Sweeney uses a lot of it.

So far the only two shows I've seen were Wicked and Avenue Q (Both London), and thought they were both great. I would like to see Wicked again, as I was something like third row from the back of the house on the top balcony. I'm going to New York soon to see a girl I used to date, and she's going to take me to see some shows. We met working on a local production of Chicago, and shes now at AMDA.
