Need Some Tips On Cellphones

Fri May 01, 2009 5:00 am

Im going on a vacation to the US and I want to get the Motorola i580 phone such as the one in the below link and I wonder if I can use it in Europe with a SIM card. I dont think this is a GSM phone like most European phones are now days. If I cant use this, what would be a similar Motorola model phone which would be a rugged as this one? I really want this phone badly and use it in Europe too when I come back. Is there any possible way?

Also, would the Motorola i930 be good to use more outsode of the US?
In the second link, would the i930 be more suitable to use in Europe?

I just need a phone thats ruggedized to Military grade specifications to be used in Europe WITH a SIM card...

Thanks in advance.

Your best be would be to go look on Ebay or by some odd chance Overstock.com. Not sure if they deliver internationally.

There are only 2 major carriers that use SIM cards TMobile and AT&T and to be honest I have never seen those phones used by either. If they did they would be locked to that carrier and you would have to find a way or someone who knows how to unlock it. The only phone that is a bit "rugged" were those old Nextel/Sprint phones and those do not use GSM technology.

The i580 is iDEN. It only works on Networks like Nextel. Push to talk. I dont think it supports any GSM bands.
The i930 Would work for you back home in Europe but not in America.
Just find a phone that is "quad band", meaning that it has the "850, 900, 1800, and 1900 bands."
Then it will work in Europe and in the States.. But only on GSM networks.
Whoever said you can do anything you set your mind to has obviously never tried to slam a revolving door!!!
