Any College Student Registered For Fall Classes?

Sat May 09, 2009 6:31 pm

Last week I was surprised to learn that my college, Brevard Community College, has allowed students to register. To begin, I did not believe my source as he has been known to lie. However, it has been confirmed by advising. Therefore I have registered and got the same teachers as last semester except for meteorology that full fills have my science requirement. I have registered for the following:

Math for Liberal Arts 2
Humanities Byzantine through Enlightment
Meteorology

I'm thinking about registering for one more but don't think I will with work being in my way. However, I plan on buying a Spanish book to prepare myself for Spanish.

Yep.

Senior Engineering, Heat Transfer, Analysis & Control of Linear Systems, Stability & Control, Aerospace Lab, Principles of Intermediate Flight I, and Intermediate Flight I (the last two courses are part of my instrument rating and are more of a practicum type)
B-52s don't take off. They scare the ground away.

Well, next week I'm going to register for a bachelor of mechanical engineering correspondence course with, most likely, a university in Berlin (though several other universities offer these courses now and while most of the studying is done by correspondence or internet, I'll still have to attend a few days each month in class or for written exams. Since my mother still lives in Berlin and I can get cheap flight connections, I won't have have problems finding overnight accomodation if I've got to go there for an appointment).
The whole course will take 9 semesters and will allow me to work fulltime in my job.
It is especially aimed at people who already have practical experience in technical professions.
Currently I'm refreshing my maths knowledge (the last time I've done serious calculus was twenty years ago and maths will be the toughest subject for me. If I can hack the maths I know I'll pass the whole course).
There are also a few private universities offering such courses. They are a bit more flexible and customer oriented than the government ones, but tution fees are much higher (300-500 Euros per semester in a state university compared to 300 Euros a month in a private one).

This type of courses, while already existing for a long time in the UK with the "Open University" have only been established in Germany a few years ago. Before it was either fulltime on campus studies or nothing.
I have the feeling that I've topped out careerwise with the qualifications I've got up to now and that, if I want to continue with some better position, I'll need an academic degree, I also realised that, being 42 years old, this might be my last chance.

Took the computer applications one last semester and I will be taking psychology this summer. I disliked the computer applications one as it was a pia but it served its purpose.

well my fall classes are sorta in limbo right now. I was registered for:

Finance 101
Management 110
Japanese 6
Int. Business 154
Marketing 170
Int. Business 161 (Asian studies)

This was all until last month I got awarded my university's full-tuition scholarship to the University of Amsterdam. Now I'm up in the air as what I'm officially taking because apparently UvA isn't business accredited (according to my university's standards / program - never mind the scholarship itself runs through the business school) and add on top of that I've already taken most of my liberal art requirements (all economics, poly sci courses, etc.). With no accreditation, most business courses I would take there would be for nothing. So now I'm scrambling to get approvals for humanities courses (art history, literature in translation) with only about a week or so before I head back home to DEN (I'm in NYC right now). This is not too mention I have to do the same thing for spring courses as well. So this is making everything very interesting for me. However, I think I'm still "officially" registered for my original fall classes  Big grin

I just checked my class list for the fall, and my GenEd class already has 39 students registered. I am amazed, because AFAIK, I have a terrible reputation amongst freshmen as being too tough. Naturally, I disagree.

Taking one course the first half of the summer, which is (finally) my last college class. It's called "The Korean Past" or something like that - it's a general ed requirement, and I'm taking it pass/fail.

Jesus. And I only paid what I did because my school does this thing where if you have all your classes online you qualify for the in state rate. Which is considerably less than the out of state rate. They dont advertise it and they school almost diddnt want to give it to me. Anything for more revenue!

Don't complain! A semester at my school costs $15,000. That's what I get for going to a private, liberal arts college I guess. UGH. I guess that's what bank loans are for!

My Fall 09 semester looks like this:

ECON*263*01 (14554) Elementary Microeconomics
MKTG*340*01 (14671) International Marketing
MGMT*490*01 (14664) International Management
BIOL*102*01 (13754) The Natural World,LE
FINC*435*01 (14574) International Finance

After those classes... I'M DONE WITH SCHOOL, until my Master's that is.

You misread methinks. I said $4000 per class, not per semester.

For your info, here are USC's estimated costs for the coming academic year for a full-time student (I'm part-time, so I pay by the unit):

$38,570 Tuition
614 Mandatory fees
11,458 Room and board
1,500 Books and supplies
896 Personal and Miscellaneous
580 Transportation

$53,618 Total (add $150 USC Orientation Fee for your first semester)

Over $19000 per semester in tuition alone!

What are you thinking of getting your Masters in? I am already halfway there with mine. I am currently enrolled in a graduate program in Geography and Planning as well as a certificate program in GIS at West Chester University of PA.

Altho I have yet to register for my classes thanks to a damned hold, I will enroll in Field Methods, a Planning law or theories class, and another GIS electives class to fulfill my requirements for the GIS certificate. This will be my last semester of classes. Next Spring I write my thesis paper. Then, I am done!!!
