Chinese Tourist Visa (USA Citizen)

Sun May 24, 2009 3:19 am

Hi all -

I'm putting together a plan to go to China in a week.

I've read up on the Chinese tourist visa process. The loads on the flights I'm looking at each way are really good for non-revving so I'd really like this trip to happen if I can. (Anyone one here going to be on the NWA89 inaugural leg from DTW to PVG?)

Has anyone here done the Chinese tourist visa thing and if so, do you have any information for me (like, give up now!) ? I'm going to have three days to go to one of the consulates in the US to get this. Is that even going to be enough time? I've read conflicting things on the internet about it.

Thanks if you can help. I didn't know I was going to try and get there until a few hours ago today. I'm still just hoping that it is even possible. If the visa can be done in one day, then I'll have a shot. Otherwise, I'm not sure.

I haven't been to China, but I'd start with the U.S. Department of State

They have a link to the China Embassy in the United States....

The website above states 4 days processing for normal process, with Express and Same-day services available for a rush fee.

Good Luck!

You can get your visa in one day but it will cost you double the ordinary waiting period which can be as long as a week. By one day I mean drop it off today and come back tomorrow to pick it up. Several years ago it was running around $150 for that option.
Warm winds blowing, heating blue skies, a road that goes forever, I'm going to Texas!

I visit often and I always use an expediting service. I live in San Diego and I think it is processed in LA. Has never taken less then 4 days door to door.

Holidays may also play into it. Monday is Memorial Day in the US and in Shanghai our office is closed Thursday, Friday and Saturday for Dragon Boat Festival.
