Best Netbook On The Market For Under €300?

Tue May 26, 2009 7:34 pm

Ok its time to change my Eeepc 701. I hate the Linux system and want one with Windows XP.
Must be under 1.5KG in weight and have decent size keyboard, ideally 9-10'' Screen with integrated webcam.

So which do you recommend?

Under €300 will be tough. But I am using the Samsung NC10. If you take the basic one (no UMTS or Bluetooth) then you are slightly above €300.
It is a 10" screen and the quality is good and the performance as well. I really enjoy working with it.

I spent a little more (just over £1500 !) but got the Sony 11.1" series of notebooks.

Have had these for the last 3 years and now on my second model. By far the best laptop under 12" on the market.

Thanks that could be the one. Looks ideal. I found it in the PC World Website for £300 so not too much difference between that and Euro at the moment.

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/sto...l&tm=null&sku=256582&category_oid=

The thing I found with my Eeepc 701 ( 7 inch screen ) was having to scroll left and right to read web pages. Also keys hard to type as too small and battery life was dreadful.

The Samsung NC10 looks like it would have none of these issues?

I am using it for 4 months now and the battery lasts about 5.5 hours with WiFi on, so pretty good. And the size is just good, no problem with the typing and using all 10 fingers. No big deal here.
And no scrolling left and right on most webpages.
The screen is very bright as well which is good when you use it outside.

Thats great I might go in to the store this week and have a play with the display models.

I had limited it down to ::

Eee pc 904ha £259

Advent 4213 Netbook £249

DELL Inspiron Mini 10 £299

But on battery life and features the Samsung beats them all .

How come you want such a small computer? Is it just to limit your price more easily?

I just want something to fit in my backpack for travelling and checking emails, surfing whilst at airports, hotels etc... The Eee pc 701 was great size and weight and for my first netbook was ok but like with everything else the time comes when you want more and you realise the bad points of what you bought.

I will never buy a Linux based PC every again though. I hate it so much lol...

So the choice for me now is down to Samsung NC10 and Eee PC 904HA

I will take a ''test drive'' on both and make my decision but the Samsung is winning at the moment. Great recomendation WILCO737 and I thank you very much for that. I never would have found that if you didnt point it out.

The Dell is worth taking a look at. I have a Mini 9 and its awesome. Small, light and barely noticeable in my backpack, quite solid in its build. My only gripe is the 16gb SSD, but I usually carry around my 320 gig external hard disk, so not a big issue. As far as tech support goes, I paid an extra $80 and got the premium service package (thats what they call them here). ..basically they'll send someone over to fix it if something goes wrong. I've had the netbook for about 7 months now and use it heavily everyday..no issues so far.

Couple weeks ago I bought ASUS Eee PC 1000H and so far I am happy with it - yet unable to provide any feedback. The keyboard is far more convenient to use than the one on Acer AS ONE.
Also, you may want to check out Dell's new Inspirion Mini 10

I just brought an Acer Aspire1(White) net book. Cost $A580 (incl 10% GST), which is close to E300 (although what its price in your neck of woods is I have no idea). I have fallen in love with it. Under a kg with the 7 hour battery (the Blue ones have the 3 hour battery and are a bit lighter), slips in the back pack almost unnoctiably, has all the goodie of such types, 120 GB HDD, 1 GB RAM, 9" screen, 3 USB ports, RJ45, built in wireless and an SD card slot, which makes it very easy when travelling with a camera and external video output.

One down side the RAM CANNOT be expanded without voiding your warrenty, even if done by an authorised service centre (at least in this country) and even though it has a SODIMM slot.

I've got a HP Mini 1000. The keyboard size is good the screen size is good. It only has two USB ports so that's a bit of a downer but otherwise it's fine.

Just got back from PC World. They had the new Eeepc 1000H . Saw a deal on it for €249 and was ready to buy it but then noticed it came with Linux  Angry

Also saw a Samsung NC10 and love the feel and look of it. Keyboard very good also. It was €329.

The Dell Mini was nice and I loved the keyboard , something about it though that just doesnt leap out and say ''buy me''.

So looks like I might check a few more stores and get best price. NC10 is still at the top IMHO.

Just keep in mind that the top of the black one is this bright black which looks like on a piano and you see all the fingerprints on that. But apart from that it is a good netbook.

Yeah I saw the finger marks lol.. Another thing I noticed which I love is the left and right click buttons which on the Eeepc you have to use alot of pressure to press down. The Samsung is light touch .  thumbsup

A mate of mine is without his computer as it bust and he cant afford to replace it so Im going to give him my old Eeepc 701 so he has got something to tide him over. Its in mint condition and has all the packaging etc.. So thats my good deed for this month.

Thanks for the info, it's pretty good indeed. It's currently at 399€ here in Belgium (including a mini mouse and a bag). I'm also looking at the Samsung N310 which is 100€ more expensive but come with the mouse and bag plus an external Samsung cd/dvd burner. They claim a 5 hours battery autonomy and up to 11 hours (!) with an optional battery...
There's also the Acer aspire one D-series which can be found at 349€ here in Belgium (10' screen, 6 cells battery and windows XP).

I have a 11'' screen Asus (forget the model) full-blown pc.

It cost me 700 euro last year, and although is slightly heavier and the battery lasts for slightly less than a netbook you have a full pc on your hands so you can have the full gaming, graphics, movies, storage, etc. thing rather than just type and internet.

Some of us don't care about OS, since we just install the one we want best but, about hardware, basically look for a nice screen so you don't have to scroll too much, a nice keyboard and great battery life... guess what! Samsung NC10 fits the bill!

Enjoy it!  Silly
