What social problems are you talking about?

Europe as a whole has not more or less "social problems" than America or other parts of the first world.

Unemployment is up everywhere in the world, people are nervous about their jobs and well-being - this leads to some anti-immigrant feelings and hard line conservatives advertising a return to the "good old days" find more support in times like this.

I don't think the full elections results are available until Sunday, so any discussion may be premature.

My thoughts is that it has to do with what's happening in the UK. a lot of people simply do not trust politicians anymore.

The political scene up there is really shattered... so it is going to show in the election results one way or the other. I am sure there is a lot of the same happening in other countries only we do not know. Somehow it remains hidden.

A lot of people will just not go to the vote. I think the abstention rate will be high.
They predict 55% abstention rate in France. I am not sure about other countries.

Love this quote from the English Democrats
"We want English freedoms and values, not multiculturalism."

What a nice thing to say.

I think that its not so much social problems that people are upset with.
Its immigration.

Its sad but I guess politicians doesnt take this question seriously and people are getting angry. It will get worse as well unless something is done about it.
Most parties that play the immigration card gains support.

In regards to social problems, most of these parties says they want to bring back the all security and all inclusive feeling from lets say 1979.
They don't seek social change rather see the past as better than the present and people often agrees with this. In most cases that would mean more government regulations, less competition and higher taxes...

But dont think Britain is in this situation. were just fed up with the present bunch and will vote for change. We do this every ten years roughly. In ten years time we will vote the Tories out.

The reason small parties achieve more is generally due to people not caring about the EU elections and turnout being much, much lower than for national elections.
Its been this way for a long time and the right-wing parties isn't stronger this time compared to what they have been previously. More spread but not much stronger.
Italy's fascists have been in parliament for quite some time, same with the Flemmish, French and the Austrian right-wing parties etc etc.

How do they think they will control it?

Stopping immigration is impossible. They will have to get used to it whether they like it or not.
There will be more and more immigration in the years to come.

The EU are not islands like Japan. It is impossible to control ever meter of its borders.

Just the idea of the EU means immigration. If they accept intra-EU immigration they will also have to accept non-EU immigration or it would not make sense.

I am old enough to remember the 6 countries Common Market. There was no immigration at the time or almost none, I mean infinitesimal numbers. France would take the workers in (in limited numbers) but not the families. Migrant workers would send the money home.

Then the Common Market got bigger. The laws were changed and immigration started coming in. It will be more and more so. People better get used to it. It will not go the other way around. You cannot send these people "back home" to their country of origin.

I agree - it is immigration. The rich countries of the European Union - the United Kingdom and Germany etc are taking in a lot of immigrants thanks to the openness of the EU traveling and immigration policies. This adds stress to social infrastructure, and generally the locals don't like this massive influx of immigrants. Especially since workers from the Eastern European countries are flooding the more well developed ones.

They better get used to it as I said in my previous post. There will be more and more of the massive influx of immigrants.

These new immigrants will not only be coming from East Europe but from all parts of the world. Sub-Saharian Africa and the Maghreb, parts of China, the Indian sub-continent and Sri Lanka and other places.

These people will be creating the new demography of Europe as we Europeans have less and less children. We will have to accept them together with their religions and cultures that are totally different from ours.

This is something that has to be accepted. It is a fact and it is an irreversible fact. It cannot and will not be stopped or reversed. We cannot go backwards to the 50's and 60's.

There just isn't any "massive influx" of immigrants. The numbers are still very small in relation. Problems do exist, but they are nowhere near as large as some people make them out to be.

That is a myth. There is actually no "flooding" happening. The special limitations which - among others - Germany has put into place were mostly pointless and unnecessary.

People's fears are way out of proportion.
