Will Federer Win Today?

Sun Jun 07, 2009 6:32 am

I'm going to be brave and say no, I think it's going go to 5 sets, Soderling winning the first two, Fed the next two then he crumbles due to nerves in the 5th and crys a lot afterwards whilst telling everyone how great he is and some other crap about his destiny.

Yes, Roger Federer will win, he has been playing excellent ball lately and I think he will be able to take the pressure of the Finals. Not to take anything away from Robin Soderling, who has also been amazing, but when it really comes down to it Federer will win it, no doubt.

At least you were right about one thing - he did cry.  Wink

Atta boy Federer. I knew he would win; Soderling had zero chance.

I'm happy for Federer, he deserved this.

Would he have won if he was playing Rafa in the final?  stirthepot

Not the greatest ever, one of the greatest, but not the greatest, it's hard to consider him the greatest when his major rival Nadal has a clear cut winning record against him, as I heard someone on tv say Federer makes an art out of hitting a tennis ball, Nadal makes an art out of winning a tennis match.

Rod Laver also won 2 calander year slams, I can't see Fed ever matching that feat.

What really annoys me about Federer is that he always cries, his weeping like a girl at the Aussie Open was disgraceful, it stole the moment from Nadal, and like the Williams sisters he always has an excuse for when he looses, a real Champion would take it on the chin admit defeat and say I'll knock the bugger off next time.

I don't really understand why you say that. Roger Federer is always very humble and diplomatic. He always praises his opponents and congratulates them on a good match before talking about himself. He surely is a good and honest sportsman.

The question is totally wrong. The real question is how many more French Open titles he can win, and whether he can be the first person since Steffi Graf to win a Golden Slam.  Wink

I would be surprised if he wins another French Open, I very much doubt that he will win an Olympic Gold, whereas Rafa has already won Olympic Gold and I can see him winning the US soon. Another plus for Nadal is his age, he's 5 years younger than Fed.

As far as I'm concerned Fed's career is on the downward slope whereas Nadal hasn't hit his peak.

And to add to that, he and Rafa are good friends despite their rivalry on the court. You probably don't see things like that with other rivalries (e.g. Boris Becker vs Michael Stich, two people who may have respect towards each other, but never really liked each other at all).
