Haha I knew that would come up . Maybe one day they will be flown back. I wasnt so annoyed about the fact that they were not handed back but years ago there was a Channel 4 documentary ( I have it on VHS Tape ) and it was a pledge of the then opposition Labour Party that it was their policy to hand them back to Greece. The day after Labour won the elections Athens made a formal request and guess what ? They refused them.

I think they are worried that it would set a precident for Egypt and other countries to make requests. Anyway maybe one day a deal can be done.

Thank you very much for the good news. We have all been waiting for this museum a very long ttime. Athens has some wonderful museums. This one will be a masterpiece to be added to the list. I will no doubt go for a visit. The view over the Acropolis from the café looks superb durin the day and must be even more beautiful after dark. This museum will have a lot of success.
There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde

Greece to unveil Acropolis museum

The long-awaited Acropolis Museum in Athens is to be unveiled later.

The modern glass and concrete building, at the foot of the ancient Acropolis, houses sculptures from the golden age of Athenian democracy.

The £110m ($182m; 130m euros) structure also offers panoramic views of the stone citadel where they came from.

Culture minister Antonis Samaras said he hoped it would be the "catalyst" for the return of the Parthenon sculptures from the British Museum.

Some of the sculptures, also known as the Elgin Marbles, originally decorated the Parthenon temple and have been in London since they were sold to the museum in 1817.

The museum has long argued that Greece has no proper place to put them - an argument the Greek government hopes the Acropolis Museum addresses.
