No, Google Earth will not work as a replacement. Those pictures are too old. It seems Janet Napolitano now thinks these satellites, ment to find and keep track of terrorists. Now, how is she going to keep track of those "terrorist" who are US Military Vetarans, Abortion Opponents, and members of the GOP.

Actualy the program and access to data will still be available to local agencies, just not thru the DHS, but instead via the DOJ.

The National Applications Office, that was the part of DHS that was responsible for sharing intel gathered from military and intel satellites with law enforcement.

Haven't the events over the past few weeks (Tiller and Holocaust Museum) proven that report to be true?

So these spy satellites are still being used to spy on civilians, it's just being done by the DOJ?

Rep. Jane Harman (D., Calif.), who oversees the House Homeland Security subcommittee on intelligence, said she was alarmed when she recently saw that the Obama administration requested money for the program in a classified 2010 budget proposal. She introduced two bills that would terminate the program.

"It's a good decision," Ms. Harman said in an interview. "This will remove a distraction and let the intelligence function at [the department] truly serve the community that needs it, which is local law enforcement."

Emphasis mine...

Isn't Jane Harman essentially saying that data gathered by the intelligence agencies is to be predominantly used for law enforcement purposes?

Isn't that sort of a no-no?

That is correct.

Does anyone remember a few years ago when the Dumbocrats accused Bush on spying on the American people through NSA wiretaps on certain calls and internet traffic that originated in a few Arabic and Fasay countries?

Precisely; there is no ON/OFF for Mr. Napolitano to switch off.  Yeah sure

Let's back up a second: Democrats ever took issue with wiretaps and data mining on communications originating or destined for Arabic speaking countries. What was at issue was the fact that the DHS, NSA, DOJ and Bush Administration would not own up to the fact that they were actually getting conversations being placed/recieved completely and wholly within the United States. For example, Mavis, up the street, calling Gertrude across town, asking about her apple fritter recipie. That could have been tapped or not. We don't know and, thanks to Bush Administration lawyers, will probably never know.

Maybe Napolitano sees the budget is redundant and found something she can cut? Maybe she found she can get better intel from the ground than from sattelites?

Didn't you answer your own statement? The Bush Administration did not do any domestic wiretaping without a court order. They did tape/investigate some international calls, the courts approved, and Congress was informed.

They did not tape Gertrude and Mavis.

This kind of falls in line with Princess Nancy forgetting what the CIA did, and did not breif her on back in 2003. She accused the CIA of "lying to Congress". The CIA had all their documentation. Can we accuse her, and the rest of Congress of "lying to the American people"?

KC-135 Top Boom,

From what I remember the Warrantless Surveillance Program was done, uhm, without a warrant...

From what it seemed President Bush felt as Unitary Executive, Decider and God that he could just do it without asking FISA

Well, no. What upset people is the fact that Bush lawyers decided it was okay to not release information on who exactly was being listened to. Mavis and Gertrude or al-Qaida... no one knows thanks to Bush. He and his people felt they didn't need to follow the law for the security of the nation.
