No "Happy Pride" Thread?

Sun Jun 28, 2009 2:24 pm

Usually there are one or two of these threads this time of year. I see a few reasons for it:

1. Its not a big deal to be gay anymore. (Bodes well for marriage, btw)

2. A.net has become so gay that there is just no need.

There were people on both sides of the issue, the ones that it was just too flaming and that it hurt the gay community more than it helped, and the others that thought that wearing rainbow colored jock straps in front of hundreds of thousands was the best idea ever.

Consider this: Christians dont get a bad reputation because wear ugly sweaters during Christmas.

So, how ever you feel about it: "HAPPY PRIDE"

Now.. were is that jock strap

We went to the Castro last night. A bunch of people wandering around drinking over priced alcoholic drinks. I don't get how that is supposed to make us proud. Duane (my partner) told me it is a free event. It cost us about $40 just to go there. I was not impressed. Oh, well. Those that enjoy it, good for you! As for me, I am going to the beach today.

Parade was last night here in Houston, but it was just too damn hot and sweaty to go last night! Now, I don't mind sweat, but who wants to be around some sweaty lesbians?  duck

I'm in Paris this weekend and rented a little apartment in the Marais district; turns out there's a happening gay scene here (there's a hassidic community here too). Anyway, this was gay pride weekend in Paris and we just happened upon it. It was a whole lot of fun. The music and noise didn't die down until after 4:00 in the morning. Lots of fun!

It was Edinburgh pride yesterday. I would have gone if it weren't for two things;

1) It was my town's annual galaday yesterday (always is the last Saturday in June) and I would have had to be out of the house at 7am in order to avoid the roads being blocked. Instead, I stayed in bed.
2) Also, with my dad going into the hospice a few days before hand, I just didn't feel all that proud.

Happy Pride Though. I had a party at night instead, and made sure I drank lots of (alcoholic) 'poof juice' and listened to Dancing Queen full blast and danced with one of my many fag hags!  Smile

JG  Yeah sure

I have mixed emotions about Pride. As far as the movement goes, it's generally a giant step back in my opinion, but as far as a party goes, it's a pretty good time. I've walked in a few parades, been to a few more prides, and generally speaking it's the same thing you find at the club on a Saturday night, just outdoors and a lot trashier.

Did Toronto Pride over the weekend. First time down here at one of the largest in the world. Had a good time but other, non-pride related events made for some early nights over the weekend.

Next up is Montréal at the end of July and, depending on my plans, possibly Ottawa's pride in mid-August. I've never had such a 'proud' year but circumstances, largely related to my boyfriend who lives in Toronto are bringing me to these events.

Pride here in DC was two weekends ago but I was out of town due to a death in the family (my grandmother always had a remarkable timing!). From what I gather though it wasn't a big deal as the city is pretty much a gay capital anyway...

Came back from Toronto Pride..While it is no big deal to be gay Pride is important symbol....There are places gays are fighting for their mere right to exist........

Plus it was a lot of fun...

Completely agree. I didn't go to the Minneapolis one this year as it really seems to me that it's another excuse to go out and get hammered with friends. Don't get me wrong, I am all for that every now and then, but do we really need a whole weekend designed for it? Maybe other cities offer something different, but in Minneapolis it's the same thing every year. It's nice to see the companies that support us in the park, but even those don't seem to change. Just my opinion.

I find it odd (although I do not know why, maybe I shouldn't) that there are so many gay men in DC. I find it even odder that seemingly half of them don't know or act like they don't know they're gay lol.

I think it has to do with the way this area is set up. Percentage-wise DC may be on par with other metro areas in terms of gay population; however, given that the DC metro area is comprised of a tiny city (DC) surrounded by endless suburbs the gay population in the area tends to be concentrated in DC (and the most immediate areas like Rosslyn, Arlington, Alexandria, etc). It also helps that we have several universities on site.

The first Saturday in August sees Amsterdam's Canal Pride. Its the biggest party of the year and while my partner and I are not devotees of the scene, this is one party we loath to miss. Unfortunately it seems to becoming a victim of its own success and the heterosexuals are beginning to take over. Especially those irritating het-women who seem to think that a gay male friend is a fashion accessory  Yeah sure "You must come and dance with us" *Eff off*

The 30th edition of Roze Zaterdag (Pink Saturday) on 20th June was in my home town of The Hague this year. Unfortunately I had to be in London that weekend. By all accounts it was a blast.
