Karl Malden Dead At 97

Wed Jul 01, 2009 7:56 pm

Sadly, 2009 sees the passing of yet another great star; CNN is just reporting that Karl Malden, who won an Oscar in 1951 for "A streetcar named Desire", is dead at 97.

He had a very successful career and his film roles included "Patton" (where he played Omar Bradley) and various others. His most successful TV role was "The Streets of San Francisco", in which he partnered Michael Douglas.

One of the greats.

The first time I heard the slogan "The American Express Card: Don't leave home without it." was out of Karl Malden's mouth.

RIP

How sad. We're losing all these great talents.

Loved Malden in many roles.I mostly remembered him in "Patton" as Omar Bradley and the heavy in "Nevada Smith."But I guess his two greatest roles was Stone in TV's,"Streets Of SF" and in the movie "Streetcar"

Great actor! RIP Karl!

He also played a priest in the 1954 film On the Waterfornt.

A true great has gone. He really was a legend of the silver screen.

I will always remember him in "Patton", which is one of my all time favourite films. He also made a brilliant made-for-tv film in 1993, called Vanished Without a Trace here in the UK, according to IMDB it went by the name of "They've Taken Our Children: The Chowchilla Kidnapping". He was superb in this as the schoolbus driver, who helps keeps the kids calm during their harrowing ordeal.

And who can forget the horrendous special effects in the disaster movie "Meteor"? He was great in that as well, along with Sean Connery, Brian Keith, Martin Landau, Natalie Wood, Trevor Howard... they spent so much on the cast there was nothing left for special effects!

God bless you, Karl. Rest in peace.  tombstone

At 97 years old, I feel is more about celebrating his long life than mourning his passing, he lived out his natural life and then some. It’s not like the recent passing of Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett or Billy Mays, all who passed on too early in life.

R.I.P Karl

I remember him as a real class actor, much like John Wayne, but not as famous.
