Most Expensive Glass Of Alcohol You've Bought?

Mon Jul 06, 2009 7:42 pm

£13/USD$21 for a Singapore Sling in Raffles. My wife and I have been to Singapore four times, yet only had one of their famous drinks on our last visit last week. But, it was delicious and worth £26.

I don't remember exactly but probably in the $10 range at some overpriced NYC bar.

I've had drinks that others have purchased that would have been much more expensive. Old scotch, champagne, etc.

Bought a $150 bottle of Taittinger, while celebrating at a restaurant and only got to drink one glass of it with the young lady I was with. But it was worth it.

Not a glass though, which is the purpose of this thread... How much would a glass of that equate to?

$10 Long Island Iced Tea at a local watering hole in Pittsburgh.  Smile  drunk

Probably not a winner tho (and given this economy, I'd rather NOT be the winner of this thread!!)

Well, no I had one glass. That was it. The rest got left behind. And there was no one else sharing it with us. So I did pay $150 for a glass. But I see what you are driving at.

Based on the average of 6 glasses per bottle of champagne, that would work out to $25.00.

About €8 for a cocktail of some kind in Spain. I think I was about 14 but was blessed with looking 16 - the drinking limit at that time over there, and knew all the bar owners anyway. More than that price and I expect to receive the whole bottle  yes

To be honest, I haven't the foggiest clue. Probably somewhere between $10-$15 for a glass of wine. Not for anything special, just the alcohol prices here in Canada are ridiculously high ...  Sad

Last time I was at LHR, I wanted to grab a gin and tonic before my flight, but it was like £7, so I passed .... lol!

I paid £7.50 for a double vodka and lemonade in Tall Trees about 8 years ago at a wedding reception. After that I stuck to the free wine on the tables. I made the drink last too, lol.

I've paid 6 € for a beer in Rome three years ago and 5.30 € for a pint of Guinness in Dublin last week. Needless to say, I only had one on both occasions.

Not sure if that really counts, but couple years ago I bought this XXXL mojito for some 850 CZK (roughly 31 EUR) served in totally overrated Prague's La Bodequita Del Medio.
It was THE most expensive bucket of ice I've ever bought...   and if that wasn't a reason enough to be pissed off I also indirectly supported the Castro government.  Angry
The second memorable purchase of expensive alcohol was around 8 EUR for a bottle of beer on a beach just outside of Athens.

I've paid £9.50 for a glass of champagne, and I think that was the highest. Before that it was at least £6.50 for a double vodka and coke in Blu Bambu in Newcastle...

I'm used to paying between £2 and £2.50 for doubles (25ml shots in the former, 35ml shots in the latter) and £1.30-£1.50 for a pint of beer! When I go down south everything's too expensive again!

I paid £8 for a small scotch and dry at the Dorchester Hotel bar once. And no it wasn't worth £8.

I think I also paid out £8 for 2 cokes at that Cafe Florian on St Mark's Square In Venice back in 1981. That was a lot, especially as I was at college on a grant.

The worst expensive drink I had was a (roughly) US$10 bottle of Corona at a Mexican restaurant in Bratislava, Slovakia...bad food, bad beer. Well, that was a bad beer...the cheap, huge beer in Slovakia was awesome.

But, the most expensive drink, if I remember correctly, was a glass of Laphroaig scotch at approximately US$25 at the Peninsula Hong Kong. Glad work picked that tab up  Wink

About GBP 240 for two rounds for 4 people at the American Bar at the Savoy in London. IIRC a G&T was about GBP 17, Cocktails started from GBP 24, bottled water was GBP 10 and a glass of vintage champagne in the region of GBP 80. Still it was opulent surroundings and we were also served a tray of nuts and olives.

Went for a pee and there was an attendant in the Gents who handed you a towel after you washed your hands and brushed down your jacket every time - and expected a tip of GBP 5 increased to GBP 10 if you used the 'complimentary' colognes provided!

That was one occasion when I wished I did not volunteer to foot the bill!

The first week or so after I turned 21, and while I was out at the bars, I would drink $2 PBR's until I was feeling quite good. Then, for some reason, in my naivety (or intoxication), I felt I deserved a drink mixed with top shelf liquor to celebrate turning 21. I remember a few screwdrivers and other mixed drinks being in the $15-$20 range. I grew out of this habit within a week, and went back to my PBR's.

bottle of Hennessy XO some 25 years ago in a Kowloon bar , was about 1000 US$, shared with 2 others. I probably paid more per glass when I had to take out overseas guests to the Reeperbahn in Hamburg many years ago, but could not care since I always got a DM 1000 bill spending money from the accounting department.

Wonder that no one said what the most expensive glass really can be., that's the last one you had in a pub before you got into your car and was stopped 3 blocks down the road by police.

"after hours" on the Reeperbahn starts at 5 am. To answer yur question, I brought the receipt from the Safari Bar and the remaining cash, which usually was not very much and that was OK. The managing director authorized that and after a couple of times the fun fades. After all, you had one or two guys from overseas, customers, you had to entertain and that is work, unpaid overtime.

where do you keep that bottle? In a cooler? Sorry, but are you serious? Put it in a dry dark place with constant temprataure, should be between 4 and 10 degreesC Best in a cellar and don't move it too often.

Best ask a local wine expert to check the conditions and take his advise. otherwise you destroy the wine and the value.
