The Summer Weather Where You Live

Tue Jul 07, 2009 9:24 pm

I was curious how the weather is in other parts of the country/world this summer. Is it very hot? rainy? cool? Here on Long Island it has been very cool and rainy so far this summer. Since June it has only gotten to 80 degrees twice! But I don't mind, I rather have this weather than have temps in the 90's with high humidity!

It hasn't been overly hot in Calgary this summer, but we have had (until yesterday) almost zero precipitation for quite some time. It's been mild here and rather pleasant, but very dry.

This time of the year is when we usually get our +30C weather... and it's in severely short supply thus far.  Sad

Here in DEN, we have been getting very odd weather. It has been extremely wet this summer. The average rainfall is really way above average!!! Not overly hot, but still warm. We get the thunderstorms almost every afternoon in the last month or so which is quite unusual around here.

A week in the life of Oklahoma City:

Monday: 95, humid, clear skies

Tuesday: 115, dry, clear skies, rain

Wednesday: 63, rain, cloudy, possibility of snow over night

Thursday: 85, 30% Chance of Storms.... 9PM comes and GOOOD GAWD THERE's AN F5 on the ground! We got an F5 ON THE GROUND!

Friday: 115, Clear Skies, Windy and Dusty...

Saturday: 80, (Remember folks, the Tornado Sirens will go off at noon, but don't be alarmed). Partly Cloudy

Sunday: 95, 80% Chance of Storms..... (9PM and it's 75, clear skies, hasn't stormed at all but they did test the sirens once more just to mess with you).

In other words, we never know, but it's pretty much this way the entire year. I've had Christmases when it was 80 degrees, and some when it was -10 with blowing snow. We have about a week of pleasantness between each season.

But one thing you can always count on, the winds will be anywhere from 20-55 MPH everyday.

In and around Atlanta:
The last three weeks it's been over 90 every day with at least 75% humidity -- in other words, standard fare.

Two weeks ago it was over 100 with 95% humidity for the better part of a week.

We really haven't had that bad a summer so far here in DC. May and the first part of June were really wet and miserable, but it has dried out now, and temps are only hitting the mid-80s with none of the humidity we typically see here. I've lived in DC most of my life, and can't remember a summer that has been this pleasant so far. Great grilling weather!  bigthumbsup

There was great weather last week in London, very sunny and temperatures of 89F (31.8C) but that all changed over the weekend and it has gradually become worse throughout the week. Today was the worst with plenty of wind, rain and the odd rumble of thunder.

I can only remember about four days since the beginning of June on which we have not received some amount of rainfall. It has been both sunny and rainy basically every day, with high temps ranging between 73-96 F.

Much the same here in KBUF. The weather station at my daughters school (tied into the weatherbug) says that it is 64.8 F or 18.1 C

Tomorrow they claim it will be a bit warmer still quite a bit cooler than normal.

Well, it's definitely got variety! Actually, we probably have the best and most beautiful thunderstorms in the US. They are simply stunning rolling in and on the backside as well. Huge towers, and about as many cloud variations as you can imagine.

You have to remember we get up to nearly 50C down here sometimes, and getting below 20C is cold for us. However I like the cold weather, and hate the hot weather.

Seattle has been SPECTACULAR! It's been warm, sunny and no rain since well before Memorial day weekend (May 22). The running joke in Seattle is that "Summer" begins on July 5th (just after Independence Day). It seems like that has been the case the past couple of years.

Quoting Dragon-wings (Thread starter):
Here on Long Island it has been very cool and rainy so far this summer. Since June it has only gotten to 80 degrees twice!

I grew up on Long Island and loved it. But I can't go back. The humidity is tough for me to handle. Makes me lethargic. My family has been complaining since MAY about the weather...."too cold, too much rain". I just keep quiet and listen...makes them feel better.

Cheers!

Typical Japanese early summer...choking humidity marked by occasional dryness. Quick squall lines that race through and leave little time for enjoying the action. Ridiculous corporate dress code that requires copious daily sweating.

Yes, here in Ontario it has not getting into the 30s much -- I think maybe 3 times so far. Was in Winnipeg last week and went down to 6 or 7 degrees a couple of nights. Looks like it maybe a year without summer. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Much cooler than last year in Los Angeles. No 100 degree days that I know of in the Valleys, at least not this summer. There may have been a couple earlier in the year... Last year at this time, there had been so many hot days that the fire danger level was at the highest level, something that usually doesn't happen for another month or two. Some cities canceled their fireworks last year for the 4th to prevent fires (even though they don't launch them anywhere near brush, but it was a "token" move that allowed them to save money).

Miami:
90s but humidity is always around 100% so it feels like high 90s low 100s most days sometimes it can get up to 96-98 feel like 110-115. When I used to play football in August the field temp would be as high as 120.

Normal day is 90s but then in the afternoon it will cool down because the clouds roll in from the everglades and we get our daily thunderstorm around 3pm-5pm lighting, rain sometimes gusty winds too. Sometimes this can last half the day sometimes 20mins and its sunny again every day is different but its almost guaranteed some place in the metro area will get a thunderstorm. Nights are not too bad humid but 78-84 and it does not rain much at night except around 2am it seems to rain a lot than too but it comes after your nightly lighting show which is great IMO.

I would say maybe 25% of the summer days are clear with no rain at all. Most of the time the rain only last an hour or two max. I don't mind the summers much the rain and heat are the price you pay for 70 and clear skies from November-April  Wink

I haven't experienced a summer here yet since I only arrived at the end of March , at that time it was early autumn and the temperature here was still high 20s / low 30s and very humid , but the winter so far is not too bad , temperature still mostly low to mid 20s although a couple of evenings it has dropped down in to the teens , our house is at around 500m altitude so we have very different weather from the people down on the coast , we actually spent this last weekend at a beach resort and managed to get some sunbathing done in between cocktails - if this thread is still open in six months time when summer is here then I will be able to tell you what summer is like here Big grin

Been pretty much crap here in Eastern Ontario. We had about a week of really nice, sunny, upper-20s to low-30s (80-90°F). Since then we'll have one or two days of sun followed by 4-5 days of rain and cloud. Basically, it's the same summer as last year which means we'll be two years without a real, good Summer  Sad

Here in Illinois we get 80s or 90s most days, with some nice thunderstorms once or twice a week. Some of them get really severe with hail and tornados, but for the most part they are harmless and won't cause any inconvenience unless you are flying somewhere. Plus, the farmers need the rain.

I hate YYC. The weather flip-flops. One day, I'm on the patio, drinking a beer, watching Echo (the dog) chase wasps around in the 24°C weather, and the next we're under a tornado watch today and it's raining and the trees are sneezing (windy).

I want 30° NOW.

I wanna move to DFW or MIA. I hate Calgary and its shit weather.

It's been pretty nice in DC so far, we were drenched in May and half of June. However, since then, it has been pretty nice. Temps mostly in the low 80s, low humidity, and partly sunny. However, I'm just waiting for the awful, sticky 90 degree heat with 80% humidity, and lots of thunderstorms during rush hour. I like a hot summer, like in Dallas (my previous place of residence), but I have no use for the humidity.

Austin has had all sorts of record-breaking heat this summer already. A look ahead, all days will be sunny:

Today: high 104
Friday: 103
Saturday and Sunday: 101
Monday and Tuesday: 102

It hasn't really been that humid, it just sort of feels like an oven when I walk out of work. Heat indexes are to hover around 106 and 111 in the next few days.

Summer hasn't come to Boston yet. We haven't even installed our airconditioners yet. Lots of rain. Humidity has been high. I fear that when the heat finally arrives it's going to be of the relentless tropical variety.

Barcelona/Catalonia is typical mediterranean weather. Similar to California or the likes.

This summer started quite warm with maximum temperatures around 30ºC most of the days, but it's gotten cooler recently, with temperatures around 20ºC most of the time and overcast skies with spells of rain for the past two days.

The Tour de France riders got all wet today on the Girona-Barcelona stage.
