Ottawa Mayor On Trial

Wed Jul 08, 2009 11:06 am

Yesterday in an Ottawa courtroom, legal arguments ended in the criminal trial of Mayor Larry O'Brien (charged with influence peddling). Trial is by judge alone, and he has said he will make a ruling by August 12th. I believe jail time plus a fine is the punishment if found guilty, and O'Brien would be required to immediately step down as mayor.

I can't recall in Canada that we've ever had a mayor of a large city go to jail, but there'e Marion Berry in DC of course that comes to mind. Anyone know of a Canadian offender, and, how do you think the judge will rule ?
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
