Six Flags Great Avdenture: What Do You Think?

Sun Jul 26, 2009 7:48 pm

I'm going to NY city for 10 days and I would like to go to this park, I love rollercoasters. Is it worth it? I know there are direct buses from NY city center to the park.
Have you ever been there?

It is home to the world's tallest roller coaster, Kingda Ka, at 456 feet at 128 mph. They do have a couple other pretty good roller coasters.

Six Flags as a company is one of my lesser favorites to visit but for a day I think it'd be worth the trip if you can get there for a relatively cheap price. Try to find a Pepsi or Coke can in the area because often times you can present one at the gate (if its advertised on the can) and get a pretty good discount.

They're in bankruptcy but still operating, I live about 10-15 minutes down the road. One note of caution, avoid weekends and especially weekend nights. To many from the inner cities of NYC, Philadelphia, Trenton, Newark etc... Six Flags Great Adventure is a vacation, you get some shady characters.

Been there many times, love the place. Excellent if you are into roller coasters, they have about 8 of them, and you could spend the whole day doing nothing but ride roller coasters.

Since they give you the Safari Park tickets for free, I usually left the park at lunch time, got some food at the local fast food places, ate while driving through the safari park, then back into the park. Ah the good old times  Smile

Indeed - very shady and sometimes violent Gang-banger types from NYC or Philadelphia, Camden, et al, especially Friday and Saturday nights!!!!!!!!!They jump ahead in the lines for food and the most popular rides - and you shouldn't challenge them or you really risk a beating, robbery, or worse. Not the best/safest amusement park in the area, that's for sure.  crazy .

I've been to the park dozens of times. If you use common sense, you won't have any issues with any low-life there. The rides are great, the food is okay, the shows are good, but the queuing areas are horrible. On most rides, you'll be standing in line under the sun with no shade or fans to help.  Sad

I refer to that place as "Bad" adventure...

More like Kingda Ka-ca... I was there once and it will be my last unfortunately. They cannot keep their rides maintained if their lives depended on it. Only about 40% of the rides were operational when I was there, and Kingda-Ka was not one of them...

If you ask me, don't waste your time or money. Too bad you're nowhere near Hershey Park... MUCH more bang for your buck there if you ask me.  Smile

I'll go back when either Kennywood or Hershey acquire that park...
