Just have some general questions for anyone who knows about them or is involved with any adult baseball groups.
1) Where is the best place to find leagues in rural areas? Right now I'm specifically looking at the mountains of Colorado.
2) How is the competition? I understand there are tryouts and drafts for some leagues. Are we looking at pitchers throwing around 90 or around 75? How stiff is the competition to get onto a team?
3) For those who play, do you enjoy it? Is it something you look forward to and would recommend?
So some background on why I am asking: the one regret I really have in life is quitting baseball. I never hit for power, but I was an on base machine and a really instinctive fielder (mostly played SS
and 2B, with some 3B, OF
and pitching thrown in), rarely making a fielding error. Definitely was an intense S.O.B. on the field -- the manager in whatever league is after little league used to put me in charge of some parts of practice and also had me as the third base coach occasionally, since I would threaten to bench teammates if they didn't hustle -- but it paid off by having our team make less fielding and baserunning errors than most teams in the league.
The long and short of it is that I really miss the game and want to get back in. I still go to the batting cages occasionally and have friends give me fielding practice whenever possible. Are these leagues the way to go?
Anyway, thanks for your help!
