MLB Trade Deadline Tomorrow

Fri Jul 31, 2009 5:53 am

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/

As a San Diego fan, looks like Adrian Gonzalez and Heath Bell, undoubtedly our two best players besides Jake Peavy (who is injured and cannot be traded) are being hotly pursued, most strongly by Florida and Boston.

If I was the management team, I'd want someone MAJOR for either one of them. Maybe I'm naive, but I can't understand why SD is talking to BOS about trading Adrian, a power hitter at peak value that the Sox will need in their push for the playoffs, for just prospects...

I'd say at LEAST LaRoche and/or Drew (ideally, I'd love Pedroia, but I'm pretty sure the Sox won't give him up, even for Adrian) for Adrian if the Sox want him, and Ramirez or Nunez if the Marlins want Bell.

Jake Peavy can infact be traded, but it would be obvious if he was in the only legal situation he could be, being injured and all.... He could be sent as a Player To Be Named Later (PTBNL). Any trade involving SD and a PTBNL would have a huge influx of talent and/or draft picks/prospects coming into San Diego.

For anyone checking out this thread, of course, ANY teams trade rumors/news can be discussed here. I'm just talking Padres because they're my team.

Looks like he did just get traded to the White Sox for 4 pitchers.

I wish i'd seen this sooner! Had a meeting with the red sox baseball ops guys on thursday and heard a resounding "no" regarding adrian gonzalez, and a no on Halladay. Too bad the pads lost peavy tho...
As someone told me lately, everyone deserves a chance to fly.....

If Gerut is one of your "best" players, we'll give him back... shit most of us would pay you to take him back.

Hoffman is amazing.... Cameron should still be in San Diego and Gwynn should be starting in center for us...

Hmm. I haven't been keeping too much track of him since he left SD, but he was always reasonably consistent while he was here. He hit .296 last year for us with 14 HRs.

Edit- just read up on his stats for this year so far, and you're right. He is sucking pretty bad this year. Just 7-for-46 since going to MKE!

Yeah and you just saw the best and brightest in the bullpen here in Milwaukee last night. Its no wonder why Hoffman has only seen the field like 3 times since the beginning of July (not including the ASG). This team is sucking horribly right now and the only thing we got at the trade deadline is Claudio Vargas... why didn't we trade for that Mujica guy?!?! 2/3 of the San Diego in Milwaukee project has worked.... if ya can't beat them, trade for them.

I feel your pain... Padres have been blowing, but at least your team seems to be willing to trade for BETTER players.

They might be trading for better players but I'm starting to feel like we're the next Texas Rangers... can score 10 runs a game, but lose 12-10 cuz we have no pitching.
