Where Do You See Yourself In 10 Years?

Sat Aug 08, 2009 9:15 pm

Hello fellow a.netters,

Just watching Discovery channel and the commercial asked the question: "Where do you see yourself in 10 years? How will your future look like in 10 years?"

It made me think. 10 years, then I am 41  crazy ... I hope to have a wife and 3 kids by then; I hope to be Captain on a short haul airplane within LH; I hope to be healthy to enjoy the time as Captain and to enjoy my time with my family; I hope to still have the same friends I do have now as they are very important to me...

I'll be 26. I will have been out of grad school for 1 or 2 years; that is if I attend any sort of grad school. I'll have a degree in Aviation Management, and I'll be working my way up in some airline career, whether it be flight attendant, or a corporate position.

I will be 42 by then. I hope to be the owner of the Krombacher brewery and the owner of the football club Borussia Dortmund by then.  Wink

Seriously now... I hope that my girlfriend and me stay healthy, that we keep our jobs, that we can go on vacation as we like, etc. Basically.... I hope that everything will be as it is right now! Big grin

Wow...I'll be 40. Hopefully still with my partner (will I be able to call him "husband" by then), hopefully still with as much hair (God, we made a deal, remember!), hopefully with my family and friends still healthy (gosh, my parents will be in their early 70's/late 60's then!).

For me the bigger question is where we'll be...my partner wants to move back to Germany, which I would love to do, so we'll either own a flat in DC or one in Dusseldorf.

Oh, and I'll use the mid-life crisis excuse to buy me a Boxster!

That is NOT old...well, in normal years anyway. In gay years that would be like 98!  Big grin

Maybe? As in I hope I can fool nature and squeeze out a few more months here and there and not grow old!?!  Wink Just kidding DXing!

Worried about my daughter, chasing after my son (he's already a terror) and hopefully flying a desk. If not, JCAB check airman status will be sufficient if I get on with a carrier out this way.

I really have no idea--I'm not even sure where I see myself in three months.

Probably working in some law related field (barring any unforeseen circumstances, I will be attending law school as the class of '13), probably either in a serious relationship, or already married (that's a scary concept) with possibly a kid on the way (even scarier...)

It looks that many have personal dreams or thought where they are, like family, friends, health. I haven't really seen anything about: "I see me in a awesome Mercedes SLR McLaren" or something like that. So it seems that the personal values are still higher than the material ones.
My best friend gave birth to her daughter yesterday! Everything is fine, all are fine and I am so happy for her and her husband!! THIS is what counts most!!

I will be 44 by then (2019), more than over the hill!  Wink

Currently I am pursuing my PhD in craniofacial embryology at UCSF; I have at least 3 years left on it (hope to finish in 2012).

By 2019, I hope to be finished (or nearly so) with my postdoctoral fellowship (could be at UCSF, or could be back at King's College London, my alma mater, God only knows).

If I have finished my postdoc by then, I hope to be in a faculty position at a university in the USA, the UK, or Europe that has a craniofacial developmental biology programme. I hope to teach and continue my research in this emerging field--a field all too close to my heart (as a living example of craniofacial malformations).

I also hope to have an improved, less obstructed upper airway (via improved jaw surgery) by then. (Currenly my mouth and airway are very small, compromising my breathing, eating, and swallowing.) I have heard there are artificial TMJ devices; one on each side of my malformed lower jaw would really help, since I have no functional joint on either side!

As for my bone conduction hearing aid, in 10 years, I hope to have availed myself of the latest, totally-implantable Borg-like hearing implants (that cannot be seen externally). Medical researchers are actually now working on implantable hearing devices that can be totally buried under the skin! By that time, I will have been totally assimilated by the Borg... Wink

In a nutshell, I will be completely bionic (with the most advanced, Borg-like implants in my head for hearing and jaw function), researching and teaching about craniofacial embryology either in the USA or Europe.

At age 36...

Rich and retired.

If not (the most likely scenario)...

Happily married with JCS17 Jr. in preschool or in elementary school. With enough money so that my wife can stay at home and I can send my kid to a good private school.

I hope that in 10 years time I am in a position where I am able to do my bit for the world. I want to do something to reduce our impact on the environment, and make my contribution to a sustainable future on Earth.

I want to help others improve their lives and have the same opportunities I have had. I see myself making these contributions by working as an engineer in the renewable energy sector and living in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.

Hopefully, by that point in time, I will have seen and experienced a lot more of the world and met lots of people of various nationalities. I hope to finally figure out who I am, and be comfortable with it.

Having time to indulge various interests and hobbies would be nice and who knows, perhaps a family of my own.

In ten years I will be 39.

I will plan my 10 year marriage party ( as I will get married soon) I will be still a die hard Football ( Rapid Vienna) Fan and I want to have 2 kids at least. Other than that I want to have a big flat and a good car and the Basketball A- Coaching License. As for my job I can´t say if I wanna see myself at an airport.... time will tell!

absolutely no idea , ten years ago I was living in New Zealand working in the travel industry , three years ago I was living in Belgium working in a call centre Sad , currently I am living in Mauritius as a househusband . If I had to guess I would say that I will probably be living in Africa or Europe or Australasia , and that I would think Antartica , Asia ( other than maybe Central Asia ) or the Americas are probably pretty unlikely for me ( hopefully of course I will still be living )

That is just perfect. If you are happy where you are now, then why change anything? I am sure many people will envy you for it. Being happy where they are is something you don't see a lot.

In 10 years I'll be 39.
I hope I'll be healthy as well as my partner. I hope my parents are still alive then. I hope my sister and I are still best friends and that she's happy.
I hope I'll be a full professor by then and that my scientific career goes well.
I think I'll be married with my current partner by then and I hope we have a nice house.
I hope climate change isn't too much of an issue by then.
I hope I'll finally reach stupid silver in my flying blue account.  Wink

Cheers

I'd like to have paid off as much of my student loan as possible, if not all of it, and have a well paid job. I'd like to have finished my masters by then too, but I'm not sure if I'd take a job in Landscape Architecture or follow my dream and become a pilot - student debt is bad enough and I just don't fancy another even bigger pile to pay off.  Sad

Hopefully I'll be healthy and wise, with a small family. So long as I'm happy though that's the main thing.

I'll be 43 and fabulous  Smile lol

I will have completed my degree in Business Management. I will be working in the aviation industry, probably on the ground in some capacity.

I could be working anywhere in the world, not necessarily my native Australia or my adopted Ireland.

I will be debt free, possibly have purchased a house, be in good health, and happy with my partner  Smile Perhaps even married!  Smile

So I will also be 39. When I was 19 I said to myself 'oo in 10 years time I will be married
and very happy in my house yadda yadda'. Now I am 29, I couldn't be further from that!
As long as I am financially secure, I really don't mind what happens in 10 years.
I have no plans to ever have kids so that's cool but would still like to have that beautiful
wedding dress and day but will probably still be a washed up BA hostie still on the A320s.

Oh isn't life a funny thing!!
Never give up..

Then I'll be 32.
Hopefully working as an airline pilot and also in the left seat (fingers crossed), and would be awesome with Kastrup as my base. I love travelling but I am happy living in Copenhagen.

It would also be nice to start up a business of some sort and put effort in making it a healthy business and watch your project grow into a success.

By that time it would be nice to have a wife and 2 or 3 kids also.

I'll be 34 years old by then, which in itself is a worry. Hopefully, working an international desk at one of the newspapers here, if anyone finds the kindness to hire me. Otherwise, I'll be a freelancer, doing odd bits here and there...

No kids yet, even though I'll be thinking about it alot more by then.

Cheers

Sorry to hear that  Sad I think we should live life by the day...I honesly don't think our reason on earth is the final part...there's no final in anything...Even space goes on forever...I hope and think we will meet again with people we are close to...
There's a reason for us living otherwise there would be no point in just being born and dieing...I think someone created us, the earth is just a perfect balance to keep us alive that I'm sure can't just be evolution

Jeez. In 10 year's time I'll be 27.

I hope to have gone to South Africa to get my PPL/ATPL etc, and then onward to NYU for a Degree in Physics.
From there, I'll work my way into the airlines and I'd love to be working the right hand seat of some lovely BA short haul jets. Although, with the way they seem to be going at the moment, will there be a BA there when I come to be able to work for them?

I may be married, but will definitely have no children by that point. I'd like to have my house(s) and be financially secure.

On the other hand, if all I have is the friends I have at the moment, I'll still be happy  Smile

JG  Yeah sure
First Class passengers are my favourites. They can't get any further forward without an ATPL.

Oh my gosh...what would make you do an ATPL which is as much a degree in terms of level, and then do a physics degree...

I want to do both in order to have something to fall back on should something happen that buggers my chances of flying  Smile

JG  Yeah sure
First Class passengers are my favourites. They can't get any further forward without an ATPL.

10 years from now I will be 38. (OLD)

...as the hills, Dan

In ten years' time, not only will I still be younger than LHR380 (obviously...), but...

If things go as the optimist in me vainly hopes:

I'll have a small house with a manageable garden (and, PLEASE, a dishwasher) just out in the country beyond the suburbs with only a small mortgage and a high enough salary that it doesn't bother me. I'll be working in a decently-paid job (£50k minimum, preferably more) and won't have to commute long to work, being able to work from home regularly, and travel on business often enough that it breaks up the desk work. Alternatively, should my MA turn out well, I will have embarked on and completed a PhD in a discipline of Human Geography, and will be aiming towards lecturing in that field at a university either in the UK or the US.

If things go like the pessimist in me expects:

I'll be working in an underpaid and menial job in a local government department, working hard enough to earn promotion several times over but never having enough faith in my abilities to put myself forward for a career progression. I'll live on my own in a slightly tired-looking terraced house which commands a grossly-inflated rate. I'll have given up on socialising with my oh-so-successful friends in favour of an extensive interest in railway modelling, and will still hate doing the washing-up!

So probably somewhere between the two. The important thing is that my family stays together and in good health.

Have you ever felt like you could float into the sky / like the laws of physics simply don't apply?

10 years I will be 29. Wow thats crazy to think just 10 years ago I was 9 years old. Anyway I will hope to be healthy and happy thats number 1, getting ready to settle down a bit with starting a family soon at that time. Have a nice job, either some type of lawyer after working for a DA for 2-3 years. Hopefully with that lawyer job I can hold some type of public office as well. But I will also love to be a Special Agent with a Federal Law Enforcement agency so hopefully one of those two things will happen and I think I will be happy. Oh yea also I would like to have my PPL, Insturment and Multi engine ratings by than.

When I was 19 I said to myself 'oo in 10 years time I will be married and very happy in my house yadda yadda'.

I said the same thing myself at 19.  Silly
I lift things up and put them down.

Growing Fruit and Potatoes on the Island Of ST MARTIN...Aged 37 with maybe my first ever girlfriend
and getting blown off by a Jumbo!

Wow that sounds like a good plan.
I'll be 41 then. Hopefully I'll be married with a couple kids and a job that I like, but I told myself I'd be there 10 years ago.

I'll be 35. Career-wise I have no idea what will happen given how things are now. I'm hoping to at the very least be starting to have settled down with somebody worthwhile by then. Not feeling too optimistic about that one either despite I've been seeing a decent amount of girls lately.  bored

Well big plans for me! Lets see where I want to be when I am 26:

-Pass my IB with a mark of around 40 give or take 1 or 2 points (out of 45 that is)
-Go to Uni in Australia or Englanddepending on how I feel then
-Move back to Australia for a few years to see how it is (after all I haven't lived there since I was 11 and the following 5 years were spent in culture rich Europe so hopefully I still enjoy my home country)
-Work in a growing industry like advertising or pharmaceuticals.
-Have an awesome appartement in either the city, the north shore or on one of Sydney's beaches.
-Drive either a Porsche Cayman, Aston Martin Vanquish, Bentley Continental or a Range Rover (probably hybrid by then)
-Have a hot girlfriend maybe in modelling that is also smart.
-Have a large group of good friends and all my friends and family safe and healthy.

To sum it up I want to be on a career path with a decent income (AUD$200 k +) set up for more growth.
