RIP Princess Diana... 12 Years Already

Mon Aug 31, 2009 2:31 pm

30 August 1997 The Mercedes 600 carrying Princess Diana and her companion Dodi Fayed was traveling more than 85 miles per hour when it hit a concrete pillar head-on in the Place D'Alma underpass, crumbling like an accordion. Both were killed, as well as the driver, Henri Paul -- later proven to have been under the influence of alcohol.

The Princess of Wales died on 31st August 1997 at 3.57 am at Pitié Salpetrière Hospital in Paris.

RIP Diana Princess of Wales.  crying

My mom read tons of books about her life. A family friend of mine used to host annual party in celebration of her death for 3 or 4 good years..

So they were happy she was dead?  Confused  Confused  Confused

I was no fan of hers but I never would have a party to celebrate her death.

if only she had had the commonsense to wear her seatbelt ( or better still , to not get into a car driven by a drunk ) she would almost certainly still be alive today  banghead

I still have my photos of her and Prince Charles on my grandfather's yacht before they got divorced... such a tragic death, but as Kiwiandrew said, if only she had been wearing her seatbelt... common sense obviously didn't prevail...

30 August 1997 The Mercedes 600

It was an S280 not an S600 Mercedes which she was killed in.

IMO she had become nothing more than tabloid fodder in the year or so leading up to her death, had she been alive today I don't think people would have much time for her, especially if she was knocked up by Dodi.

I don't think he meant "celebration" as in "Celebrate Good Times", I think he meant it as "Honor her life and memory".

The death of Princess Diana was one of horrible mixes of situations leading to a tragedy. It should not have happened. The public grief was way over the top, especially in the UK, perhaps out of guilt for putting her on such a pedistal and a victim of the media. I was in London and southern England in the days just after the death of the Queen Mother - she had a far more reasoned public greaving, although being 100 years old might have been a factor.

I have always been concerned that Princess Diana only had one bodyguard and he who didn't do his job either by making sure the driver was sober and allowing the car to be operated at 2 1/2 times the speed limit. Considering that she was a potential target of terrorists and constantly at risk by the vultures of the media, she should have had a much higher level of security. If so, she might have given better guidence to her children and most of all, still be with us and using her position for the charties she supported.

I will never forget where I was that day . It was 5am and I was sitting in the Aer Lingus lounge at Dublin Airport. I was waiting for my flight to Frankfurt. The lounge staff switched on the TV and said something about Diana but I didnt realise until she flicked onto the BBC which had live breaking news. We couldnt believe it. Some Aer Lingus staff and a few lounge guests just stood around the TV. It was also the topic of conversation on the flight to FRA.

In the UK we hardly noticed this latest anniversary of Diana"s Death it had small amounts of TV Airtime and not much else.

As the world has moved on with the present and Diana is part of the Past and UK History.

It May seem Cold to some that I say this but we Live in an Ever Changing world were we can Die in a Heart Beat so we live for the Present and not for the Past.

Let Diana rest in Peace with out her Death being re-examined at every Anniversary.
