OMG...Tracy still has a FB page!

It wasn't that hard to find out her full name even though it was blacked out, all of her "Friends" were not. Geez, I need a life.

And yes, Facebook is dangerous if you're not cautious! I would never put anything related to my job or my intimate life.

There was the story about the Australian guy who phoned in sick to his work and then posted on FB that he was hungover, forgetting that his manager was a friend. Can't find a screen shot of it anywhere but I'm sure someone else can oblige.

Wow I bet her friends are getting a lot of requests from this..

"Hi Debbie, I seem to have lost Tracy's phone number could you send it to me please..."

Signed,

(Insert favorite A.nutter here)

I love how every version of this on the net has a few of her friends name clearly listed. Well at least this version on like some others has kindly omitted Tracy's last name!!

I had a similar story about someone who called in sick on a Friday, but later on, on his MSN messenger, he put something like "XXX is in Amsterdam!"... After a bit of investigation, he was indeed having a nice long week-end in Amsterdam.

And then he did not understand why he's been dismissed.

Her account was evidently hacked. The hacker(s), in addition to making the post in question and her later posts feigning embarrassment, also changed her status from single to engaged.

One of the main reasons why I love FB and the like...they allow the dumbest among us to identify themselves that much more accurately! I really don't fault FB at all...in fact, I'm sure that, if the cases presented above are true, then the bosses/co-workers/dates of these fools appreciate the fact that they found out the truth sooner rather than later. Like I've said in other threads, FB is nothing more than a tool...it's up to you to use it wisely. Thank God some people don't for our collective amusement!

An old school friend of mine recently did a Caribbean cruise out of Miami with his family. On the day he was due to fly home to London, his facebook status changed to say that during his trip he had "found" homosexuality and wanted to come out to his friends and family. He even posted a photo of his supposed "lover", also an old school friend of mine, and taken from a photo that I had taken on a drunken night in a pub back in 2001!!

Of course, a crowd of us on facebook who were all at school with him had a field day posting comments on what he had said, and wishing him well with his new life (well I did anyway, being gay myself...others weren't quite so kind!).

It was only when he arrived home that we found out the truth. He had logged in to facebook at the Apple Store in Miami on his way home, and had stupidly forgotten to log out before he left...and obviously the next person who sat down at that computer decided to have a bit of fun with his account!

That'll learn him!! Big grin

Quoting WestWing (Reply 13):
hacked

It was a hack:

http://blogs.sfweekly.com/thesnitch/...hey_world_tracy_turkish_brooks.php

Quote:
Brooks, who lives in Ventura County, told us that hackers took her account information from a Christian dating Web site and posted it on a bulletin board site called 4chan. Then the hackers of the world went to town. In addition to posting the lewd info on her wall, which later inspired an entire Facebook group, Brooks says hackers also made her profile public and replaced her smiley blond profile picture with one of Satan.

Brooks found out that she had been hacked last Friday and immediately contacted the Palo Alto Facebook office. She had been locked out of the account and had the same password for her e-mail account, so she couldn't change any of her information. Brooks said that Facebook didn't remove her account until Sunday morning. In the meantime, she suffered plenty of embarrassment and says that there are at least six others like her who had their information stolen from the Christian dating Web site and blasted into the hack-o-sphere.

Luckily, Brooks said the hackers weren't able to access any important financial information. Embarrassment aside, she says the hack could have been a lot worse. "Only thing I can say is, lesson learned for me," she told SF Weekly. "Do not keep all of your passwords the same." Lesson learned indeed.

It is also commented on here:
http://www.digital-media.net.au/arti...t-bits-of-social-media/495720.aspx

And the annoying thing is, it could happen to anyone, even those here who scrupulously post only good "safe" things to their FB account.

I don't buy her story one bit. A common thing people who get busted on the internet say is "Someone hacked my account/e-mail/profile!".

I don't think hackers would be pleading for help on how to remove something. That seems too geniune to me.

It took me about 30 seconds to figure out who she is (hint, look at the friends list of Tiffany).

They do that you know. Ever seen the phishing attacks they do? What ever they can to make the action, the email, the post, seem genuine. They hack accounts and ask the FB friends for money and get it with some pleading case of why the friends is in soo much trouble needing money. Just wait until you get a pleading text to send your mother or brother some money to get out of a jam. Or are requested to meet them somewhere to help them only to be help up at gun point since normal criminals are starting to do this crap.

Not funny, sadly, but fatally dangerous

A mother-of-four was murdered by her partner days after she changed her Facebook status from "married" to "single", a court has heard.
.
.
"She was quite secretive about this, preventing Lewis from using the site and turning the computer off. It is quite clear this rankled with him.

"On 2 March, she changed her Facebook relationship status from married to single and she made it clear their relationship was over."

Facebook is the spawn of the devil  devil  !
While it can be fun and an excellent tool to help one's profession or business, for many it has become a nightmare, ruining their employment, their lives and of others around them. Clearly Facebook use requires responsibilty, reason, and careful thought as can be public to anyone including hackers. Facebook many need to put in better checks of identity to make sure the actual person is making their page, better protections to limit abuse and better monitoring. Of course that will mean higher fees and maybr that wouldn't be a bad thing.
I suspect Facebook is kinda of fad and will fade badly in another year or 2.

I used to work at the gym at my university, and I got nailed for sneaking into the pool with some friends at 2 in the morning because of facebook. Someone heard some noise and reported it to the building manager the next day, who went outside to look around and see if anything was left behind. My friend left her credit card on the pool deck for no good reason, and after a bit of facebook research the manager found a wall post from her on my profile saying something like, "Man, we should sneak into the pool more often! That was fun!". Needless to say, I was brought in and faced a bit of a lecture. That was the end of that job for me, and the end of any sort of mention of my personal life/wrongdoings on FB!

Is there any fee?
I am a Facebook user and I have seen none, and honestly if they were I'd just close the account.

I got in trouble once for internet stuff, but wasn't Facebook, just a blog and hey... if I wrote stuff and left it for the public to see is because I had nothing to hide and I am actually glad I got confronted for it because I stood my ground.

But some people reaaaaally lack common sense and somehow think that the internet is different from real life in that kind of things, for example, I tend not to speak much in person, why the hell would I speak much in MSN then if I am the same person?
Same thing goes for work and personal stuff.
