The Onion On How To Commemorate 9/11 Anniversary

Fri Sep 11, 2009 1:09 am

It's the Onion, so of course it's in slightly questionable taste...

Wow, I never saw that one coming and I have no idea if the results of not partaking in the memorial would be in bad taste

Leave it to The Onion to come up with some way to point out using some strange way to point out some of the ways we acknowlege the anniversary of 9/11.
I recall their great articles in the first edition after 9/11. Best of all was an 'article' about the 9/11 terrorists suffering in hell, wondering where the promised '72 doe-eyed virgins' were, flames licking thier butts and other painful experiences we all wanted them to suffer.

On a more serious note (yet still from the Onion), here are a couple of great articles from the issue immediately following the attacks:

Very funny.

'Bad Taste' can be a corrective against the often pandering nonsense of the mass media.

The Onion seems to do that well.

They have a point. But I darkly suspect that the other half of the equation goes straight over the heads of a goodly (badly??) part of the target audience.

How do defence budgets in 2009 compare with those in 2000? Don't bother, I don't really want to know the gory details.

A "Don't masturbate day" is indeed more benefical than eating Freedom fries.

BAD taste in a way, but of course "intentional bad taste" . Intended to "relativate" the matter. Which may be a bit hard in view of the number of victims and the results.

Just an excercise in wishful thinking !  Wink

That's the point. The matter WAS serious and horrible, but to overdo the matter does not help anybody or anything. I mean, I do not believe that "public mourners" are really helpful to people who lost family members or friends. And the "show them our support" argument does not hold water.
