Toyota Discovers Excitement

From the maker of four-wheeled-appliances, something else completely.   That engine is so quiet at idle... Gives no indication of the hell to be unleashed a few seconds later.

If it is as good as it sounds and looks, the Lexus LF-A should be very special.   Don't worry about the black one, pay attention to the innocent looking white one.  Wink

And in the meantime, Toyota has managed to completely eff-up the 2010 4Runner. BOXY, BOXY, BOXY!

The 4th generation 4Runners (2003-2009) were the best, IMHO. This 5th gen just doesn't cut it.

That would make it the first high performance hybrid vehicle commercially available wouldn't it?

I'm curious to see what kind of real life mileage you'd get out of it, and how the electric hardware takes on a day at the track.

I guess we'll soon know how well it did at the 'ring.
At least the engine sounds wicked (the one with the pistons in it).

Not this one, this is just the standard LF-A, I don't think it has anything hybrid or economical about it, certainly not with a whopping big V10 in the front of it shrieking away like a banshee.

It does sound pretty mad, actually, I'd have said it sounds scary - you don't expect a Lexus to sound like that. Maybe the Porsche Carrera GT, but not this. Wow.

I still expect Porsche to be the first with a realistic hybrid sports-car that doesn't make compromises to get more efficiency.

But I believe it'll be hard to surpass just the standard 3.6L Porsche 911 with a 7-speed Doppell-Kupplung transmission, that is a very economical combination. It's also very clean running too, the C02 emissions are quite low in comparison with most cars actually. It's certainly cleaner than other sports-cars, but compares well with most ordinary cars in general, surprisingly enough.
