Is it just me or does anyone else think that Robert Gibbs, the current WH Press Secretary for President Obama, does not exude a lot of confidence when he gives his press conferences? While I have no doubt he has sterling credentials, his posture and facial expressions leave one with the sense that he's not very credible and, perhaps, an outright dork. I've thought the same of a few other Press Secretaries in the past, such as Scott McClellan (George W. Bush), Dee Dee Myers and Joe Lockhart (Bill Clinton).
I'm surprised no one in the WH considers how they come across in public during press conferences and give more weight to their qualifications based on public appearances rather than other factors including, I'm sure, political considerations. IMO, Gibbs should not be the face of the Obama administration because he just looks lost up there.
On a positive note, some of the better ones IMO have been Jody Powell (Carter), Larry Speakes (Reagan), Mike McCurry (Clinton), and Dana Perino (Bush 43).
