Wall Street Gets Its H1N1 Shots First.

Fri Nov 06, 2009 12:12 am

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/26184891/#33651691

This reported by NBC on the Today Show how Wall Street seems to be first in line for the H1N1 flu vaccine. The same old names again it seems. Special Treatment as usual? Is it fair?
I searched, delete if already on the forum.

No its not fair. But we live in a capitalist nation, so anyone with money is automatically better and more valuable than the poor. Frankly i think the morons on wall street should be barred from getting the vaccine...let the jerks die, for sinking us into a recession i say. The more money you have them more intrinsically valueable it makes you, at least in the US, its screwed up i know, but nothing is gonna change untill we wake up and switch to full blown socialism. This is just an example of how the wealthy are basically the royalty of the US...so much for equality right?

Soon, they will be the only people to receive any health care at all. Average people will not be able to afford care. It's simple, get sick, time to die. Sorry but that's where I think this is going. Of course they don't want to pay for national health care, they just want a pure cash market for doctors, medicine, surgery. Millionaires get the best care and regular people can find a comfortable place to lie down and get comfortable.

This comment was on topic, thanks.

Pretty sure I heard them saying the GOVERNMENT is distributing the vaccines to them first. Sounds more like what you'd expect from Soviet Russia, where the well connected get preferential treatment.

Isn't that the sad dam truth. Where is the concience anymore? I can not imagine stepping in front of a child, or a sick person. I did see a man on TV who gave up his last spot for a shot to a Pregnant women. A spot of light, not like this bullshit.

Saw the story on the news and the person from the health dept said that the firms all had to sign an agreement that they'd only give the vaccine to "high risk" people in their offices.
Yeah, sure - I believe that one, don't you?  Yeah sure

Actually, Soviet Russia would have given it to government officials first; unlike wall street government officials are USEFUL and valuable. Here the government gives it to the rich because the rich buy politicians; because our government thinks the rich are somehow better than normal poor people. It IS capitalism.

Eh, last I checked Goldman Sachs pretty much is the Government. And no, government officials are the definition of "pathetically useless".

That is not capitalism. Not even remotely close.

I got mine two days ago. My healthcare organization now has just enough... each physician has been asked to name ten patients that we consider to be the highest risk patients we have. All physicians and nurses have been vaccinated (which is most important, because now I know that I can't give it to my patients).

But this makes my blood boil, because I guarantee that any 6yo child is FAR more important to the future of this country than a Wall Street worker.

In the interest of disclosure, I received a swine flu shot, but I went down to the Dallas County health department to get it (they were giving them out to anybody between newborns and 24 years old, and I am 6 weeks shy of turning 24).

This is just BS. Doctors who, as a part of their job, are regularly exposed to sick and ill people can't even get access to these vaccines, and yet they are giving them to corporations and wall street firms first?
People have every right to be outraged at this. Not only at the corporations, but at the decision makers in government who authorized this. Some bureaucrat somewhere had to sign something authorizing the release of these vaccines to these firms, and I can only hope that stories like this will lead to some heads rolling and a review of the system.
I mean, who in their right mind would give a hospital the same amount of vaccine as a corporate firm?

To be fair, one of the top Albertan health officials in the Calgary Flames scandal got fired because of this.

There is a simulation we played in my schooling in a democratic society class the other day that was extraordinarily telling...it was called "Star Power" and you start off with the class divided into 3 groups. Each person picks 5 cards, and they don't know what the scoring is until later. Then you fin out the scoring and you have to trade with others for the highest cards or combination of cards. Long story short, after the first round, the winners of the first round only going "richer" while everyone else seemed to tread water...by the 3rd round, after rule making was awarded to the "richest" team, no one wanted to trade at all...

In short, it was a very very good simulation of what happens in "real life"...and demonstrated the benefits of providing equally for all in a school setting...

Sorry for being OT  Smile

I do agree, I notice, not any defenders of Wall Street showed up on this thread. I think they are wise to do so.
