Balloon Boy Parents To Plead Guilty...

Thu Nov 12, 2009 6:26 pm

...and they may get no more than probation.

Do these people need any more free time on their hands, especially at home?

Didn't the "rescue" helicopter ops cost $14K x 2?

Quite disappointing. I don't know why the prosecutor would be so willing to accept a shitty plea-bargain like this. I was really, really hoping that good ol' Richard would be sent off to the state pen for a couple of years for his little stunt and live in fear of his next shower. Mayumi, who I think is just a controllable idiot, would have to bring li'l Falcon and company every weekend to see Daddy through plexiglass. These kids deserve to know that Dad isn't so cool.

The guy is the definition of the loser, celebrity-obsessed, fame-seeking subculture that is increasingly permeating our news. A nice legal smackdown would've done this family some good.

I second that, and whats more send them the bill for the wasted rescue services time and resources.
Must think up a new one soon, slow moving brain trying to get into gear ;)

This sentence was weak and doesn't prevent the other losers like this guy from doing the same.
Hey that guy with the private jet can bail us out! Why? HE CAN AFFORD IT!

Agreed they need to set an example...This guy is an idiot and so is his wife..She needs to be deported and he needs to go to jail for a few years.

They have not actually been sentenced yet - it's entirely possible they both may get only probation, but the local DA is pressing for Richard Heene to get at lease some jail time, although they seem OK with Mayumi only getting probation. They also face potentially having to pay back the search & rescue costs (at least $62k, possibly more), Mayumi could face immigration issues possibly up to deportation (although for the benefit of the children, that's unlikely, especially if he draws jail time), the Federal government can potentially bring additional charges against them, particularly for potential interference with aviation, and the Colorado child welfare folks haven't been heard from yet.

I'd be satisfied with probation for both of them and repayment of the search & rescue costs, but with one catch - they aren't allowed to pursue any television or book deals until the probation is served out, and they have to have a psychiatric evaluation and care if needed...their constant need for publicity and willingness to expose their children to danger suggests some issues here.
