Sometimes all you can do is look them in the eye and ask " how much did your mom drink when she was pregnant with you?"

Yeah I have it, its pretty nice... perfect for listening to your music collection on your surround sound. Once it froze though and deleted all my music from its hard drive which was very annoying. Might just be a problem with the one I have.

It is possible to stream your music directly from the computer as well.

I have an Apple TV. It's nice and works perfectly if you actually want to buy your content. There even are subscriptions for TV show series, both available in SD or HD.

Which is a good thing - if you were into downloading from torrents, you'd have to spend hours to convert the downloads in a format the Apple TV understands  Smile

Yeah I have one as well and it's great. For me the best thing about it is the fact that you can rent movies for 48 hours, meaning that you don't have to buy a movie on iTunes and don't have to run down to your local movie shop to rent one. Its never really been a problem for me other than the fact that the picture viewing isn't ideal as it's difficult to select which pictures you want to view.

I've been looking at purchasing one for a while now. My library is quite expansive as it is. However, I keep hearing they are on the edge of releasing a new version which includes a Blu-Ray player. If this hold true, I could knock out two birds with one stone.

Until it can actually record TV, it has to be one of the most pointless devices out there. Short of expanding iTunes to your tv, I cant see a compelling reason to buy it.

I've extensively read about the product as well, and I just CAN'T understand what the big deal is. I'm a hard Apple fan, but until there is some super capability, I see it as a pointless device.

That is the point.....Using ITUNEs instead of cable....Plus I would not have to leave my Macbook connected to the TV all the time...( no cables strung across the floor to couch)

For me instead of spending about 1200 a year in cable bill ( i have all HD channels avail) I would spend about 600 a year and only get the shows I actually watch....plus renting movies Online(cheaper than video stores and no return)

Essentially Apple TV is a "simple" way to get itunes content to your tv....

Check out the WDTV. I use it on my VOD system at home and on the road.

This was a bug with the 3.0.0 firmware. Be sure to update.

It's an iPod for your TV. That's all. It's not intended to record OTA/cable because it "records" from the Internet.

As an Apple fan myself, I don't get it.. why buy AppleTV. It is really not very appealing.

My point above is that it is intended for people who like to buy content over the Internet. With an AppleTV (or similar device), you don't need to subscribe to a "pay" service as you can buy your content a la carte over the Internet.

People who "don't get it" need to set their mind free of the subscription model of watching television.

Yeah I get that, but it isn't very good. It's 720p movies at pretty low bitrate. That's why I don't get it.

If the iTunes music store sold 64kbps aac files, I wouldn't get that either. I'd buy the Bluray. Apple TV doesn't make much sense.

Besides, I can use my Mac mini to buy all these things anyway, have a remote, hook it up to the TV and it's a computer!

I don't get it.

Again may as well just leave my computer hooked up as I have to transfer to it.....Apple TV is best described as IPOD for tv. Connects directly to ITUNES and can download with remote control.(note I know it is probably not harmful i refuse to leave my computers on all the time)

Also in Canada we cannot go to the Network websites and watch the episodes. Plus HULU is blocked due to stupid Canadian Network licensing agreements...

So here is is either
Cable, Satallite, Buy content online or steal it with Torrents....

I have it and like it for what it is. I wish it had a DVD and/or Blue Ray player - but that aside, it is pretty good. I have 3 kids age 4 and under and have put all of our DVD's onto a Windows Home Server (HP Mediasmart Server) box. From there, I stream the content from the server to the AppleTV via iTunes (the server is on 24 hours a day, so I never have 'syncing' issues). My physical DVD's now all live in the car where many have become scratched up and no longer work... but I will always have a digital copy that is saved on 2 separate disk drives in my server (in case 1 fails). Converting my library has been a time consuming process - definiately not for the weak of heart, but everything is now converted, tagged, etc. and when pared with a good universal remote such as the Logitech HarmonyOne and a 52" LCD TV - it is great.

I think the most under-rated feature of the AppleTV is it's abiltiies to play back your digital photos on a big widescreen TV with background music from your music collection. Even early photos from my 6 megapixel Nikon D70 look incredible on a 52" TV via AppleTV (we have a Samsung TV). My daughter loves to watch slideshows on the TV - and with 10 years of photos, the shows never get old! Hope this helps!
