I Want To Lock My Amp! Help!

Wed Dec 02, 2009 4:23 pm

My Nephew keeps coming to stay (16) and brings his Electric Guitar which I don't mind, but I don't want him using my Amp (which I love more than life itself). I am often away and he is there when I'm not.

Is there any sort device I can buy to lock it? Maybe something that goes in the Line In Socket to prevent him plugging his Fender in.

Locking it in the garage is not a option!

Yep.

Out of curiosity, what kind of amp is it?

Just unsolder his pick ups, then he won't be playing through ANY amp  Wink

I do feel your pain though, having people playing through your stuff is not nice. Can you just take the power lead with you or telling explicitly that he can't use it?

Mesa Boogie 60 watt single Mark IIB ( 1981 or so) .... "Black Shadow 12" ..... 4 tube blaster...

Sadly I practice and play more on my little Line 6 Twin than I do on the Mesa ..... mostly because I don't want to lift the thing and move it around. Heavy

Get a lock for the plug. Home improvement stores sell them. They are intended to lockout a faulty power tool, but should work nicely for your purposes.

Seriously. Couple of my friends have Mesas, and I absolutely hate moving them - they're close to 100 pounds, I think.

My 50W Peavey is around 40. Much easier on the back and arms.

I think mine weighs in at about 60lbs .... but its not that big. Its only about 20 inches tall and 20 inches wide... its definitely not dimensional weight! Hey and my Line 6 is a pretty good amp for practice and jamming ... for the price I would definitely recommend it.

I know this will sound harsh, but just tell the little sod that if he touches your amp you will break his legs!

A grown man in his own house should not have to 'lock-up' his belongings to stop other people from getting their grubby little paws on them.

However, assuming you don't want to be quite so brutal, I would suggest simply removing the fuse or buy a locking flight case (or get one made, as I had to do with my Boogie Nomad).

Out of interest, what amp do you play through?
