HKG For New Years

Wed Dec 23, 2009 8:46 pm

I'll be in HKG if there is anyone is living/staying in the area.

Does anyone have any ideas of what to do? I'm pretty sure that NYE will be something on the Harbour. I'll be at the W Kowloon. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Which new years? The western one of Chinese?
Western one is somewhat subdued. The real event are around the Chinese new year.

But you can check out the HKG version of the ball drop at the Times Square shopping mall on the Hong Kong side. Also people tend to crowd around Tsim Sha Tsui and Wanchai. I believe there might be fireworks also.
Otherwise most folks I know go for dinner that night with friends and family, but reservations are a must at most upscale locations.

Don't count on that!! The countdown parties on both shores of the harbor are nothing to sneeze at!!

If you really enjoy the hustle and bustle of the countdown parties, head for waterfront areas around Central; the bar area in Lan Kwai Fong, Central; Times Square in Causeway Bay; or the Star Ferry pier area in Tsim Sha Tsui on Kowloon side. The skyscrappers along the waterfront of HK Island are sure to put up a light show, so the Tsim Sha Tsui area on Kowloon side is a good choice if you're interested in that.

I have a harbour view from my hotel room, wondering if the fire works or light show would be visible from there?

Not all "harbour views" are created equal! Which hotel are you talking about?
