Changes You'd Like To See In Airline Manager?

Sun Jan 03, 2010 1:14 am

What upgrades or changes would you like to see? I could list a few, but I'm starting this to see what others' think. Maybe I'll add a few once this gets going.

What say you, airline CEO's?  Smile

1) Much quicker time between flights i.e. simulated time.
I believe the whole idea of the flights being in real time is intentional to 'encourage' you to get impatient and actually 'buy' cash for your airline's account with your credit card. In fairness to the creator(s), its a good idea but frustrating for players!!

2) A feature to create your own livery.

3) Actual competition on routes with other airlines in the game and the ability to set your own fares.
This might not work though as a new airline with just 1 aircraft could be completely wiped out by a big player and never get off the ground (no pun intended!).

4) Option to join alliances and codeshare!

5) When someone invests in your company, you recieve cash instead of a few measly pax points.

Absolutely a great idea!!

Also, I'd like to be able to put 2 or more aircraft on one ULH route (Chicago-Hong Kong, for instance)....

This is said to be in the works sometime soon! Glad to see they had just added 527 new airports!

I'd like to see:

1) Actual scheduling of flights, thus some routes may need more than 1 plane.

2) The ability for all to send out more or less an entire system of flights at once instead of the usual bank of 10 or 20.

3) The ability to generate different maps, such as different regional maps like you would typically see in inflight magazines or on the airline websites.

4) The ability to organize the "Route Analysis" section, at least alphabetical or by percent demand.

I would like to be able to set an aircraft on different routes, not just going back and forth fron the same destination.

I would also like to be able to determine the service onboard; a LCC isn't the same as a full service carrier.

If only i could have pirated the professional simulation from my airline management class...damn  Sad I guess my biggest thing would be id like to see time compression; it takes for ever for flights to end.

off the top of my head, in no particular oder:

1. allow for cargo revenue etc

2. addition of other gimmicks such as being able to invest in things such as IFE etc... in return affecting loads. The catering thing could definitely be improved... I no longer use it and apparently the pax don't care whether or not you serve food on flights 15+ hrs. Doesn't affect one's reputation either.

3. stock section: stocks I purchased are listed by airline name. Yet those who invest stock in my airline are listed by owner. Confusing and annoying, just list all by airline!

4. I'd like to purchase and sell more than just a million shares.

5. I'd like to sort my fleet by aircraft type or number of pax, etc.

6. Alliances, code sharing, multiple hubs, feeder flights, slots and other goodies

7. Adjustable airfares, maybe even adjustable cabin configurations

8. Requirement for unique aircraft registrations? Yeah, they're kinda neat in a nerdy way but at this point they don't serve much purpose. They actually get to be a pain at some point. If one were able to buy, sell, or lease aircraft on an open market, however, that would be a different story. Buy, sell, lease used aircraft would be cool too btw.

Quoting Phen (Reply 1):

If the sim were running at say 10x realtime, in two weeks or so everyone would have a big fleet of concordes and A380s. I imagine it would get boring rather quickly! I actually like the realtime aspect. At least you have zero turnaround time, instant mx etc.

Quoting StasisLAX (Reply 2):

Doesn't this work already? If I'm not mistaken, you're able to use max 3 aircraft per route. My hub is based in Hamburg and I have several destinations operated by 2 or 3 aircraft.

I would like to see a fleet increase. I believe the max number of routes is 400.

Also it would be great if you could setup a parent airline as well as regional affiliates.

I realize its not realistic; but keeping prices on fuel from getting prohibitive would be nice. People who just start up arent going to make a profit with fuel prices at 2100 per 1000lbs like right now. I have 4 planes and i cant afford to fuel them; id only break even..  Angry

I would like to see the application work on a consistent basis. Too many times I end up with a white page when starting a flight.

It took me about 5 minutes to buy a plane, establish the route, advertise it and send it on it's way. Then I got a white page after I sent the flight out for the first time. Slowest app I have ever used on Facebook.
It's 737s, 747s and 380s. Not 737's, 747's and 380's. Learn to use the apostrophe for crying out loud.

The main thing is the need to allow for scheduling of flights. I found the app really interesting and started building a fleet, but abandoned it when I realised that it needed interaction from me for each flight to occur.

I feared that I would start playing it during working hours as it does get addictive, so I've sworn it off completely for now.

I would love a route map that lets you concentrate on different areas of the globe; and one that looks more "real" where you can actually see your flights moving, like an ATC screen.

I don't care too much about alliances or stuff like that. I would like to have a system that lets you use a single aircraft on multiple routes if you want. That might get a little complicated, but it would cut down on aircraft purchases.

I'd also like to see more rewards for "Pax Points". What that would be, I dunno, but there's got to be something better than waiting to get 4000 points to get 2 A380's.

My main beef is that all cities are considered equal.

Right now it would make more sense to start a flight to Bellingham, Washington (99% demand) than Dubai, UAE (61% demand). Obviously Dubai is a larger city/market than Bellingham, but in game the demand percent is the only figure that matters. On top of that you can operate any aircraft to any city, regardless of runway length/facilities/etc. I think the latter could be easily incorporated into the game. Categorize planes somehow... FAA group types could be used, and then apply those to airports. Some I don't think a A380 could operate out of DCA... for example.

I'd also like to be able to view all my active routes, most likely listed by hub. At one point I had two aircraft operating a route that I was unaware of.

This was also mentioned in one of their older "News/Info" threads they have in the works, part of a bigger patch that will enhance AM. Here's the latest they send before the holidays:

Quote:
We at AM would like to wish everyone a merry christmas and a very happy new year.
As you know we are working hard to fix existing bugs, and make new features for AM. We have plenty of things on our to-do list, and AM will be advanced with many new features. IFE (In flight entertainmen), tax free shops, advanced maintenance, advanced staff control, alliances, runway limitations etc.
All of these suggestions came from players, and are very much appreciated.
We do hope that you will stick around to see a bigger and better AM in 2010.

Again merry crhistmas, and a happy new year

I would like to be able to buy the same a/c type in multiple quantities at the same time instead of having to buy them one at a time. If you want to buy 6 of the same a/c type at one time, you have to go through the buying screen that many times. Being able to buy as many as you like at one time would speed things up.

I would be oh so happy (well perhaps a bit less dissatisfied with the game) if the would fix the maintenance issues. I am speaking of both the frequency and price of MX events. I am having incurring repeated MX costs of roughly $100 K for:

1) Low Hydraulic Fluid

2) Low Tire Pressure

3) Leaking Lav Fluid

The odd thing is that a "severe bird strikes" that caused "major engine cowling damage" only cost $75 K to repair

In addition to the above the frequent slow/hanging page loads are enough to drive an old man to drink. It becomes quite a drag when after pressing the start flight' button the only result is that nifty white screen and error box

Oh well even with the above issues I still check in from time to time and send some flights aloft. Though my activities have slowed a bit I still am making $50 million+ net profits on a slow day

Indeed. I try to operate as realistically as possible - I am not planning to send an A346 to some dusty aerodrome in the outback of Australia. That's plain silly.

It would be good to be able to flag aircraft due for C-checks. With a fleet of 138 aircraft, and growing, it is increasingly difficult to keep tabs on them all.

I learned to quit stressing over c-checks. With 230+ airplanes it's not worth it. When I get up in the morning I click on maintenance. Is a plane that is due for a c-check is on the ground, I start the c-check. If not, then I don't worry about it. Then I launch my flights. Around dinnertime I will do the same thing again. By then I have started the c-check that's needed. In fact, when AM sends me the c-check e-mails I don't even bother reading them. I just delete them.

Realistically a C-check is not optional, but mandatory. It also means that this A/C will be out of action (not useable) for a period ranging from 1 week to 6 weeks (depending on what type of C-check it is).

OK, I just ran into one that REALLY has me pissed off: the 401-route limit.

I've got $500 million in the bank; I'm running what I think is a great route structure, and just started another hub in SYD, and the brakes are put on with this 401 route limit nonsense!!! The fun of this is buying ships and picking out your new routes, and seeing how they do.

I hear you can buy all the aircraft you want-there is an Achievement Award for 500 aircraft in in your fleet, but you can't run over 401 routes-AND you have to pay a $15,000 per day "parking fee" for those you don't run?

LIFT THE ROUTE RESTRICTION!!!

I know what he's saying. For example, on my CLE-ORD flights, I run a 737-400, a Q-400, etc. But the point is you CANNOT run more than 401 routes at any one time. It won't let you. I guess I'll go through my flights where I'm running multiple aircraft on one route, go down to the best ship, and expand my international routes after selling the aircraft i won't be using any more.

The fact I have an MD11ER running on Gatwick - some 4000ft airport in Australia is pretty stupid, so the restriction on where you could land would be a good idea. And the ability hijackings and diversions enroute for fuel problems and stuff would be nice too.

Actual scheduling of flights

Unless you live at your computer there is no way to keep them flying on scheduled routes. It needs a way to set the routes and let it go automaticlly. Figure a 20-30 minute ground time domestic...1-2 hour international. use actual route time and the plane returns

More realistic cost of maintenance and response. I had one a few weeks back that was a one time failure that reset and never failed again. When the plane landed it was grounded until I fixed it... for $137,000...!!!! NO airline in the real world would fix a one time failure that reset never to fail again...they would wait till the part hard failed...

I've got 192 flights and it really is a PITA when you're launching a number of flights. The errors really screw you up because you don't know whether you've had an MX issue and if you're getting close to going through your current catering contract, you don't know how many meals you sold.

Sure they could make the game more realistic, but that could potentially cut down on the number of people playing once it gets too complicated. Look at the vast majority of game apps on Facebook; it's push a button here, and type something there. These games have to be a bit simplistic so they can draw in a wider audience. There are options out there for the A.nutter who wants a more serious and realistic airline sim game.

The main thing is the need to allow for scheduling of flights. I found the app really interesting and started building a fleet, but abandoned it when I realised that it needed interaction from me for each flight to occur.

Completely agree - the game should be named "Airplane Dispatcher" rather than "Airline Manager". I realize that Facebook is getting paid by advertisers based on the total number of page views, which is why Airplane Dispatcher requires users to personally (manually) launch all flights from the application. Now that I have 50+ routes operating, it does tend to get tedious.

I also wish AM would just drop all airports which are not realistically served by at least one scheduled airline. Greenland has 13 airports and Iceland has 15 airports listed in AM. How many of those airports are actually served by scheduled airlines?

Not to mention the billions of aircraft and sub variants in the game. While the variety is nice it is somewhat unnecessary. Though a used aircraft market would be an interesting addition.

In the end I gave the app up as I got bored with each of my 3 airlines that I created. Once you hit a critical mass of say 20-30 aircraft (depending on your route structure) it becomes too easy. The formula ended up being stupidly basic... find a high demand route (ideally >90% demand) that is really far from your hub city, find the largest cheapest aircraft, create route, advertise w/ billboards and launch....

A few other beefs.

No real reward for doing niche operations. Short haul, turboprop ops you get nothing. Bizjets don't seem to bring in any revenue premium in the one time I tried it (though I may have done something wrong), not enough bizjets to choose from even if you wanted to go that way.... etc.

To add challenge to the game:

- More action at airports. For example, close airports due to weather (this could be random), so no flights com take-off to/from airport.

- Airport strikes by country. For example, close all airports in France (where else?  Wink ) for one or two days due to a flight controller strike.

- Airport categories: I know this is difficult, but they could be categorized as International (all aircraft allowed), General (No A380s or 747s, for example), and Regional (only smaller aircraft).

- Even more difficult: Divide aircraft in Business/Economy. Make an option to change that configuration (10/90, 20/80 for example, but no more than 30%) at will. Then change the demand type to reflect both categories. For example, a route could be B98%/E85%.

- Bring back cargo.

- Some sort of option to do charter flights.

I agree with DesertJets. The game is addictive, but it gets tiresome after a certain threshold. When the real money starts coming in - and I'm making 200 million+ a day now - it gets very repetitive. Buy big plane, open long route, fly routes. Rince, and repeat. It needs more challenge to keep it interesting...
Don't believe anything you read on the net. Except this. Well, including this, I suppose.

- The ability to start more than 10 routes at a time. It takes forever to do 226 routes... especially when you have to refresh/reload the page 2-3 times per 10 routes... arrrgh!

- The ability to enter into alliances with other carriers.

- Demand that reflects your routes & schedules... it makes no sense that I have a ton of passengers entering & leaving my major YWG & YUL hubs... yet the flight between YWG & YUL has hardly any demand... that isn't very realistic! It should factor in connecting traffic.
