Anyone On Here Own A Saiga 308?

Fri Feb 12, 2010 4:17 pm

Is there anyone on here who owns a Saiga 308 or any of the Saiga models. So far I've heard nothing but good news about them. Super reliable like AKs are known for, but not quite as accurate as the AR10 out past 100 yards. I intend to use for range shooting and self defense only, so that's not really an issue for me.

Don't own one but the shop I manage sells them. I've heard no complaints although they are clunky and ugly.

I don't own one and nor can I shoot one.

I didn't think a real lot about the ones I have picked up at the store though. Ak's because they are so stamped formed always feel "Tinny" to me

Yes, I own an AK-47, but someone else keeps it safe for me. It's great for self-defense if you grab it by the business end and whack the offending person good. The sights are just wonderful for this purpose. A generic AK-47 is also great for target practice if you don't mind whether you actually hit the mark or not.

Do you know much about the Saigas? I know they're built in Russia-Izhmash I believe. I've heard that Russian and Bulgarian AKs are amongst the best.

They have great traditions in metalworking, and also cars. Their pickup model was popular here in the 1970s, the cheapest thing on four wheels.

The Valmet Petra is probably the most accurate version of the AK-47. Made by people who were actually paid wages.
