Nokia N900 Or Iphone 3GS

Mon Mar 08, 2010 11:59 am

It's time to upgrade my phone (currently nokia e71) and while a few days ago I was sold on the 3gs iphone, I recently discovered the nokia n900. Does anyone have a n900? What do you think of it? I am not fussed about games (I have a ipod touch for that), but I use my phone a lot for the internet and making calls and organising my day-today life and now I am leaning towards the n900, which from the specs sounds like a beast of a phone.

Can someone advise?

You should be aware that you can simply restore your iPod Touch backup to the iPhone and all your settings and apps (including the ones you've bought thus far) will immediately be present and usable. You can use as many iPhone OS devices on the same Store account as you want (including the upcoming iPad), and they can all use any items you've gotten from the store in addition to your own music and stuff.

The n900 reviews I've seen so far were rather mixed – it seems it would only be an advantage if you had very specific, absolute needs which only the n900 could satisfy.

I want you to buy the N900 to tell us how Maemo works... It looks like a nice phone, I don't know anyone with one, nor have I used one, but it looks like a solid device. If given the choice between the 3GS or the N900? I would go with the N900, but that is me. External keyboard is a big seller for me.. But you can't go wrong with either I think. You need to know what you need from a phone first as they are two different devices.

It's a transition stage from phone to a real no-strings-attached mobile computer. It's for those who know what they want, and who are willing and able to do a even bit more demanding things before the crowd gets there. The overall tone of the local reviews is very positive, especially the new OS is more than welcomed.

Edit: Naturally the N900 will play back Flash (9.4) videos as well! (mp4, .avi, .wmv, .3gp; H.264, MPEG-4, Xvid, WMV, H.263, Flash Video - listed as default installations)

I think that was indeed the whole point of Nokia running it with Maemo, it is sort of a link between their smartphone line and their internet tablets.
