Car Pic Thread Vol.2

Mon Apr 05, 2010 9:20 pm

Seeing that the old Car Pic Thread has been archived and that some of us have been getting new wheels recently, including myself  , I thought I'd fire up a new thread to post pics of our pride and joys or pains in asses.

... 04 Mustang GT, just picked her up this past weekend. Its my first convertible, so bring on the summer

Did they come standard with the nasty looking roll bar or was it an option, completely ruins the lines of the car.

Bought it back in February. It's been a great car so far...but it's taken quite a bit to get used to.

Its an aftermarket option, but since I bought it used, it came with the car. Personally, i like it, but thats just me. Besides, theres a lot worse you can do to a Mustang like lambo doors, HID headlights, god awful body kits.

Bought it about a month ago - it's the sport version with the 6-speed manual. Love it so far.

EDIT to add:

That's what I really wanted when I purchased my Civic. However at the time, the dealer didn't have a whole lot in stock and wasn't really willing to work with me on it. They basically said, "If you don't pay this price, someone else will come along and pay it." Which was pretty much true. Oh well. So I went over to Honda and got a far better deal. I trust you like the Mazda though?

I ran into pretty much the same deal. Literally, I think I got the only manual transmission 3 S within 50 miles. I paid a bit more than I wanted to, but not more than I was prepared to (the 0% APR helped too).

My previous car was a Civic, and while it served me well, I wanted something different, with better handling and some more power.

Quoting JetsGo (Reply 5):

Very much so. Still in the fine-tuning stage of adjusting to the clutch and shifter (and way more powerful engine), but yeah, it's great.

SWEET!

The 1999-2004 was one of the best looking Mustangs. I wouldn't mind having that in black with silver trim.
My first convertible was a 1987 Chrysler Lebaron convertible.
Beautiful car but very unreliable. I miss the voice alert system, digital dash and trip computer.
Oh and I also miss all the attention from the girls that car would get.

Here's my car. Same as in the last thread.
1977 Lincoln Town Car.
The wide fixed-glass top is the unique feature about this car. Less than 1500 were ordered with this feature in 1977.
Also these cars are very hard to find in black today.

Wow... reply one. You've really outdone yourself this time

Still the good ol VW, just rolled past 100k this weekend, only difference is I have the VR6 17" rims on the car now:

And my new toy, 1993 Chevy Caprice Classic. LO5, 5.7L V8 small block, bought off the original owner who kept the car in his garage when not being used, driven less than 8k a year since new. Minus a few small issues car is in fantastic shape. Looking at dropping a bigger smallblock (oxymoron aside) and a beefier transmission.

Im debating weather to take the wood off, but I want to keep the car as stock as I can minus the larger SB if I do it. I laugh that the "wood applique" cost $595 whereas the bigger V8 only cost $250.

Quoting BMI727 (Reply 17):

It's actually not that bad. A tad floaty, but still fairly responsive for such a big car, I might go for some stiffer springs if I drop in the bigger engine to tighten up the ride a bit. Plus it has the auto leveling shocks, that helps a lot.

Nice pic but that is a great car. We just bought a 2010 Honda Pilot but during the whole car buying process, I lamented to my wife how much roomier those cars were and such a great ride too.

But I do love our new Pilot.

Gotta ask, why buy that? Is going to be used for...business? Or just your bag?

Haven't decided. Using it as a work car will cost me about $400 for new license plates with like a $200 renewal every 2 years, plus a new EzPass plus having to tint down the windows.... I guess it all depends how much fun I have cleaning it up and if I get the bigger small block i've been looking at.

My dad used to have a Roadmaster limited sedan, with the neon bars on the C pillar. Luckily though, my mom's Caprice does/not have fake wood on the outside, just the interior, where it is an interesing but not too bad contrast to blue upha bathtub olstery. The steering is fairly responsive, but potholes smaller than a bath tub are unlikely to register through the steering wheel.

I agree, the 99-04 SN95s are my faves. The 2010s facelift is a close second though. There was a black convertiable I was looking at for the same price, but the paint was pretty dull. No silver trim, however I did find another black GT (non-convertible) with silver trim, but it had too many miles on it for me.

Awesome ! I'm guessing that it's a 318cid from the badge. I used to have a '69 Coronet Super Bee but I sold it 5 years ago. Not enough space, time, money and love to keep it. Took it to a lot of Mopar car shows but most of those guys were dicks who criticized a car for incorrect paint overspray.

Yes, that big Lincoln is not for everyone. But let me tell you this. You won't find a smoother riding car with more comfortable seats and better protection than this. Not to mention the awesome 4-channel 8-track system that works perfectly! When you see this baby coming at you, most people get the hell out of the way. It may be ostentatious but it is also a tribute to a period in American culture that has been almost forgotten.

Too bad it doesn't have the "Vista Cruiser" type roof. Those wagons are very popular with the low-riders here in East LA.

Now you're starting to talk practical.
When you buy a car like this, you don't think practicality. You think decadence. Consumer Reports stated that these cars were intended for "hardcore Hedonist" when these were new.
My car spent the first 32 years of it's life in Wisconsin and yet has no rust near the vinyl top.
It was once a Knights Of Columbus courtesy car and always garaged.

BTW, the AMC Gremlin looks better than almost every new car sold today.

The 2010s facelift is a close second though.

I really like the 1974-1978 Mustang II Ghia.
I'd love to get a navy blue Mustang II Ghia with chamois landau top with matching interior and factory color coordinated aluminum rims, power glass moon-roof (or T-tops), luggage rack on rear trunk lid, 8-track player and then drop in the 220HP 1988-1992 Lincoln Mark VII LSC 5.0 liter V8.
It bolts right in the Mustang II engine bay easily.

I also like the 1983 Mustang GT convertible.
The front-end has Chyslereque K-car styling but the reliability and performance of a V8, rear-drive Ford!
What more could one ask for?

Throw on some 235/75/15 with white-walls, hit cruise-control and let the car do all the work and listen to your favorite Rush 8tra---errr. casset....errr.....CD....err....what ever the kids are listening to these days.

More importantly, the drive-in opens up on April 30th so it had better warm up by then, I'd like to make it through at least the first movie with the top down on opening weekend

Man, you are like a fish out of water. You belong here in SoCal where the Drive -Ins run all year long and convertable tops are down in February.

Awesome ! I'm guessing that it's a 318cid from the badge

Its a 361cid with a 2bbl. Its completly stock (except for the rims) it even still has the original (but thin) paint. It needs a little work but runs great.

Love the Torino looks like its in really nice condition.

However, being a Mopar fan I really like the Super Bee.

Here's a picture of my Road Runner.

Looks nice with the VW rims. Personally, I like the stock alloys on VWs.

Those are the stock 15's. I sold those and got the stock VR6 17's.

Too bad it doesn't have the "Vista Cruiser" type roof. Those wagons are very popular with the low-riders here in East LA.

Our Roadmaster had the vista roof. it was cool. Thankfully the low rider and gang bangers havent discovered these yet. There is a dealer selling a '92 Roadie near my school and it's not moving because of that exact reason. They hate them.... I'm trying to get $700

Wow! Nice car!
That's R-6 Red if I ever saw it. And yes, Chrysler did paint the brake drums to match at the factory.
Are those wheels chrome Torque Thrusts?

Ah figures! Shame, they are good little cars, very popular here in the uk.

Do they have plans to send them to N.America?

I wish, they are Summit rims, about 1/3 the price of chrome Torque Thrusts.

The original Road Wheels are on the Coronet for now.

Can I ask why keven1011? I spent 32 years at Lockheed on the TriStar program.

Haven't decided. Using it as a work car will cost me about $400 for new license plates with like a $200 renewal every 2 years, plus a new EzPass plus having to tint down the windows

Out of interest, does this mean you own your own funeral home, or does the one you work at require you to have your own hearse?

I don't own my own place. Nor does my work require me to own one. However, I do a little freelance work and if I had my own it would be a plus for looking for work. That and if my boss needs to to make calls on my own now, he needs to drive out to meet me to pick up our van, whereas if he paged me and I had my own call car I could just go and he wouldn't have to do anything.

Probably the only Honda I'd buy. Thou the new CrossTour is cool too.

It's a nice car, fits the family needs right now. But makes it tough to fit a 5 chime nathan horn in there. The Crosstour was a bit smallish for us. Still trying to see who wants it vs a CRV.

I was driving at that same point. I thought you got the car for work. I'm happy to see you just got it cause you like it.

Im at a point in my life that I dont want the hassles that can come with an older car, so its new for us. But if they still made them new, I'd be all over it!

Congrats on it. Keep us posted!

Love the GM B-body. Shame They don't make em anymore.

As would I. Even if they came out with a new wagon id be over it. GM knew how to build these to last. Best I saw was a 1996 that has 18,000 ORIGINAL miles, sold for just under its original sticker price.

Get use to it. The Europeans love their "hatchbacks" and it looks like the manfactures are going to force them on us as well.

Here's my car. Same as in the last thread.
1977 Lincoln Town Car
.
The wide fixed-glass top is the unique feature about this car. Less than 1500 were ordered with this feature in 1977.
Also these cars are very hard to find in black today.

You sure know how to take care of a car. Do you have any trouble getting parts for it? It's nice to see someone value older cars, we've become too much of a throw away society.

Here's mine:

'09 E350 4 Matic with an appearance package.

'06 S430 4 Matic that never goes anywhere because it gets terrible gas mileage.

Better than cookie cutter suv's and sedans. I'm glad manufacturers and car buyers realize that to get a practical car that is a good kid carrier as well as part time cargo hauler, a wagon or hatch works.
