IPhone HD, Any News Or Pictures, Release Date?

Mon Apr 12, 2010 10:21 am

Have seen an article on the iphone HD , well at least thats what they say it will be called. Are there any photos or more info about it rather than just speculation?

Anything being said now about any future Apple product is always speculation. The company never releases anything about future iPhones.

There are "informed leaks" sometimes, but that's usually within 2 weeks from the announcement. According to the usual product release cycle, the next iPhone is due for sometimes in June or July.

if that implies that the difference between the 3GS and the new version is just a better screen, I will not be upgrading. I won't even consider it. The iPhone display is utterly beautiful already.

I know you've been harping on this point incessantly, but the answer is simple: If the ads bother you, don't use the apps. There are hundreds of thousands of apps, and you can opt to not use the ones that use advertising.

There are ad-supported apps already, and you're not worked up about them to this level of froth.

I don't like ad-supported apps either. I tend to avoid them or just use paid versions of things I don't like. That's the beautiful thing about choice and free will.

Nope. And QC is poor. Plus, Android fans love to tout the fact that you can sell stuff outside Android Marketplace, but this means that there is no centralized billing for those apps (a positive or a negative) and no way to ensure that the app you purchased works on your particular device. I purchased several apps as part of our evaluation of Android devices and found that we could not reliably ensure that these "enterprise" apps worked across different Android systems.

No-one doubts that the market, or appstore, or whatever it may be, is a good place for purchasing and downloading apps. The key advantage of Android is that you can install apps from other sources if you choose to do so, without taking to questionable manoevers like jailbreaking.

Sorry, I should have added: Even within the Android Market store, there was poor QC and device compatibility checking.

Well, of course that doesn't happen with apple, considering you have no choice to begin with.

About the iphone screen, I've seen some comparative reviews where it performed average, there were nicer and with more accurate colors screens.

Im due to upgrade my phone in 6 months so I will wait and see what its like, the low spec camera is a bit dissapointing on current models. My current smart phone has 5MP.

Of course, that would be for developers and or very tech-savvy people; for the average user of the iPhone or iPod touch, the millions of apps that can be downloaded safely & securely via the iTunes app store already satisfy their needs. This is only a slight advantage, and probably not an advantage at all for the average user.

One needs to be careful there... there are many parameters to consider.

The iPhone is actually pretty good regarding colour accuracy and daylight compatibility. Where others are ahead is primarily in maximum contrast in low light situations and in colour saturation.

But when looking at the Nexus One, they're paying for that with a visibly grainy pixel structure and actually reduced colour accuracy (visible colour banding in gradients) while in most cases oversaturating colours and being hardly usable at all in daylight.

Display technology isn't advanced enough yet to combine all desirable features in the same device – you always have to compromise and live with the resulting imperfections either way.

Flashy bullet-point features often don't make the best optimization targets...

The number of megapixels is not automatically decisive. In many cases the higher-resolution cameras actually produce worse-looking pictures than the lower-resolution ones. That applies to dedicated cameras as well.

The 3GS camera is actually quite decent for what it is – it has rather quick reaction times for snapshots, a fast and reliable auto focus (with tap-to-focus manual control), good exposure (again with optional semi-automatic control) and the resulting pictures are pretty decent for a mere mobile phone, especially in good lighting.

But the sensors are of course still getting better, so I would indeed expect that they can upgrade the resolution again without losing quality.
