LAX Ground Transportation History?

Tue Apr 27, 2010 2:29 am

Since the 1970's, what was some companies that provided ground transportation for LAX? I know Fly Away, Airport Bus (with those old MC-8, MC-9 and H3-40, but I believe they use new Van Hools now) and the Super Shuttle Vans, but what some other companies that transported people to and from LAX? I remember a companies that took people from LAX to Hotels near Disney Land in 1993. I saw one their buses when I was on a eighth grade feild trip to Disney Land, they used Silver Eagles and as a little kid in the 80's I remember companies that used GMC Buffo.

Quoting 747400sp (Thread starter):
Fly Away

Fly Away is done by LAWA itself, usually under contract.

The Flyaway bus has been around since the mid 70s. They had service from LAX to Bakersfield. Im not sure on the type of equipment they used. There was also a service called "Airport Service", which actually served both LAX and LGB airports using MC7s, MC9s and others

Airport Bus Of Bakersfield primarily used Eagle 05s and MC9s as I recall.

SCRTD - Southern California Rapid Transit District used to have a route or 2 that used to serve the actual airport terminals. Long Before the LAX City Bus Center was built.

Yes FlyAway is managed by LAWA but currently operated by Coach USA.

Some of the currently authorized transportation companies @ LAX:
Airport Bus of Bakersfield
Antelope Valley Airport Express
Mickey's Space Ship Shuttle
Santa Barbara Airbus
Grayline
Coach USA
Shuttle One
Ventura County Airporter
Roadrunner Shuttle
Prime Time Shuttle
SuperShuttle
MTA
Culver City Bus Lines
Santa Monica Big Blue
Torrance Transit

Plus 7 taxi companies, and many dozen private town car companies.
From the desert to the sea, to all of Southern California
