Not particularly a huge fan of their music, but it was music nonetheless.

RIP #2.

That's a shame. Though from what brief bits I'd read about him, can't say I'm entirely surprised.

I actually quite like their 3rd album. Haven't yet listened to the earlier and later stuff.

Very very sad news. Money, fame and success is nothing without happiness.

My money is on drugs.

But seriously, this is sad.

Mine as well. He'd admitted as much in interviews:

During the downtime I played with UNIDA and jammed with friends, but mostly I did a lot of drinking and some drugs — some heavy, heavy drugs… lots of heroin. I was shooting speedballs every day. And then pills.

But had supposedly been clean as of 2008:

I was living in L.A. at the time, which wasn't helping because it was so easy [to get drugs]. So, I moved back to Iowa with her and went to my doctor and got straightened out. And it's been a good couple years now that I've been clean."

I don’t even know who/what Slipknot is. Sadly, just another tragic musician/drug fatality…how many cautionary tales do we need after decades and dozens of talented people killing themselves?

Many of the music I enjoy has been made by drug addicts, so I guess without drug there is no good music.

Sad but true.

I've seen Slipknot 4 times in concert and own all of their albums. Paul was a solid bassist.

My biggest question was, if he was near home why was he in a hotel? I feel drugs were involved.

I don't know if you're serious or not, but it's a serious issue, so....

While drugs can certainly influence creativity, they don't supply it. It might be a different style of creativity that you find when you're high, but it's not any more or less creative than what you can do clean and sober.

In fact, you could probably write better in a clear state of mind.

Plus, if you kick an addiction, you suddenly have WAY more time to devote to writing/practicing. I've improved at guitar by leaps and bounds since I quit drinking.

Good to see you still around! I remember you always being into Slipknot. I had never really heard them till "Duality" started being played on the radio. Didn't pick up an album till last year sometime, when I finally got Vol. 3. Great album!

Anyone ever find out what happened to Joey Jordison late last year? They had to cancel a bunch of dates, from what I remember.

Sad news indeed.

Slipknot was one of the first bands I ever went to see. I remember it so well.

IIRC, his appendix burst.

RIP, Paul. Like you, vik, wasn't a big fan of them until Duality started getting a good amount of airplay and purchased Vol. 3 and was quite pleased with it. Here's hoping that Gray's death doesn't mark the end of a band that was really starting to do great things with both Vol. 3 and All Hope Is Gone.

Many of the music I enjoy has been made by drug addicts, so I guess FOR ME without drug there is no good music.

There you go, sentence corrected.

The best Music ever was not composed under the influence of drugs, unless BACH and MOZART had weed crops in their basements.

I just assumed he had hung himself.
