Need Help With Directions In Brussels

Thu Jun 17, 2010 2:25 pm

Hopefully one of our Belgians can help me with this. I have to go to the embassy of the Demorcratic Republic of Congo and get a visa. I am taking the train from OST, so I will get off at Brussels Midi or Nord. The embassy lists their address as 30 1040 Etterbeek - Belgium, but when I pull it up on Google Earth it doesn't have the look of an embassy. Do any of you know where it is for sure, and which train station would be best to get off at? Thanks a lot.

Quoting AirTran737 (Thread starter):
30 1040 Etterbeek - Belgium

Isn't that some sort of an error with the name of the street missing? "Etterbeek" is a name of a city district, imho.

It seems like someone made a mistake and it has been then copied again and again. Perhaps e-mailing their other embassies in Europe, e.g. Bern: rdcambassy@bluewin.ch or Vienna: rdc@mdk.at or calling their embassy in the US might help. They should know the exact address in Brussels.

Correct address is Maria Van Bourgondiëstraat 30, 1000 Brussels. Easiest is to take the train to Brussel Noord / Bruxelles Nord (same station), and change trains to Brussel Luxemburg / Bruxelles Luxembourg. From there, you're a few minutes away from the embassy. I assume you'll be on the intercity from Oostende, which arrives at 4 minutes past the hour. There's a connection to Brussel Luxemburg at 12 minutes past the hour. The destination of that train is Liers. Brussel Luxemburg / Bruxelles Luxembourg will be the second stop. You don't need to buy an extra ticket for this train, your ticket Oostende - Brussels is valid to all Brussels stations.

Here's the google maps picture of the embassy:

On this picture, the station exit is the glass canopy at the bottom of the long square next to the European parliament, at the bottom of the picture.

Thanks a ton Scorpio. We are going to go early in the morning tomorrow, which should afford us with some picture taking opportunities in Brussels as well.
