Job Search - What's Too Agressive?

I found a job online that I am really interested in at a large company. I tailored my resume and wrote a customized cover letter, and went through the online application system. Even though my skills match very well, I fear getting stuck in the resume black hole.

Online, through a LinkedIn search, I found someone in the very specific department the job is in. My question to all of you out there is would it be too aggressive to try and connect with this person? I'm new to the work world and don't have a ton of connections, and this job is a relocation job. Would it come off desperate or annoying, or could it be the boost I need to actually get a human to look at my resume, show I want the job, and get an interview?

Also, to make this more fun, what's the craziest thing you've done to get a job?

Tough question. On one hand, many people use LinkedIn for that very reason. On the other hand, it could potentially go against you. It really depends on the employer, who you're dealing with and how you approach the matter.

One example of a company who appear to frown upon it, is Ryanair. "Applicants who canvass (by phone, direct contact or through existing employees) will be disqualified."

Of course, that's just one example, it's not to say that every company will be the same.

If this person is not a 1 degree of seperation from you ( IE you know the same person) I would not approach him in this way. They are most likely not going to care. There is a chance they may not see it that way, but at that desperation level, you are being overly agressive .

Unfortunately, I never had to do anything crazy to get a job. Unless it is a job with another word in front of it.
