Mel Gibson Dropped By His Talent Agency

Sat Jul 10, 2010 9:26 am

No doubt people have heard about Mad Max's latest troubles - including an alleged tirade against his ex that is pretty darn nasty if it's true (particularly the comment about asking for being raped by a pack of you-know-whats) - is this guy trying to ruin his legacy and career or what? It's like Nick Nolte all over again but with uncontrolled anger. Not to mention that he seems to have told her she "deserved" being hit by him...what a class act!

Apparently his talent agency has had enough and announced they are dropping him - and they wasted no time as this is only a week since his longtime agent passed away.

Gibson's troubles have only increased in recent weeks with allegations of bigoted tirades against blacks and Latinos and reports that he is under investigation for assaulting his ex-girlfriend. Several studio executives have said in the wake of these disclosures that they consider the troubled actor to be untouchable in the industry. "I'd rather get engaged to Lindsay Lohan than have anything to do with him," one studio chief said.

Just more proof that Hollywood is really off its rocker.

Well, that is what you get if you screw with Rahmbo's brother. (Who also happens to be the real life inspiration for Ari Gold)

Modern and lower priced technology including sophicated cell phones, hidden recording devices, video cameras and the internet along with more 'gotcha' news media is making it much more difficult for anyone to get away with certain bad behaviors. For celebs, politicans and those of wealth this is even worse as there is overwhelming invasions of their privacy, people looking to extort them or make money from them. Our financial problems also is making the public want the 'rich' to get their comeuppance.

In the case of Mel Gibson, here is a guy that is rich beyond anyone's dreams. He has been in movies for over 30 years as a major star. He has been a successful producer with one of the great grossing films in the modern era. He also has a dark side, with highly hyprocritical and conterversial views of religion, a serious problem with drugs and alcohol, problems with anger management, relationships with women. He has a father that has expressed extremely conterversial views (denying the holocaust, extreme pre-1965 Roman Catholic faith, moved to Australia in the late 1960's in protest as to the war in Vietnam). I wouldn't doubt his racist/anti-semetic/anti-women views came from his upbringing. I also wonder if he (and his father) have serious mental health problems that are compounded by excessive alcohol use. Then there is his terrible judgement as to women, ditching a long marriage with numerous children for what is basicaly a 'bimbo' , a Russan woman of questionable ethics herself.

I do hope Mel Gibson gets a through investigation as to the allegatoins of physical abuse toward his girlfiend and if true that he goes to jail. He should lose a signifcant amount of his wealth in divorce, civil judgments and acceptance in the Hollywood industry. One cannot get away with the bad behavior once hidden or ignored in Hollywood/entertainment industry as it can equal losing money on a project. He is now box office 'poison' and unless he has a real reform of his life, his career in movies is over.

I think his biggest crime in Hollywood was as a Catholic making Christian films.

He hasn't been doing much lately so I guess he's been hitting the bottle. Alcohol and violence go together. His agency probably dropped him as he's run out of talent.
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

Hardly. His racist and other bizarre remarks increasingly turned off millions of movie-goers. For me any project with him attached is out of the question since he went down that road.

REally? So his bigoted rants and outbursts had nothing to do with this?

While many in Hollywood don't like anyone to their right politically, and resent any intrusion of religion in their "space" I'd have to say that Gibson has managed to persuade a significant number of very conservative (in addition to the very liberal ones and the majority somewhere in the middle) people that he's toxic and doesn't represent the type of person they ought to be financially supporting by buying tickets to his films. Write this down, because Klaus and I are in agreement on something.

Now, if only all those same people felt the same way about Polanski for his violence and paedophilia.

?? He's had at least one project a year over the past few years either as the actor or the director. He has one in the can and one in production as well as 3 projects underway according to IMDB. I'd call that being pretty busy.

Don't think the Jews had as much to do with that as liberals in Hollywood.

Agreed. No matter how good his acting/directing/producing talents are, his personal life is going to end up overshadowing a stellar career in film.

Well this time it does as the company that dropped him is run by a Jewish guy and he made no bones about being PO'd by Mel's past comments. Especially in a town like LA - can't pull that crap.

Really sad actually when a 50-something guy with all the success in the world still can't get it together. Was watching an interview with LeBron James the other day where he was talking about "if you have your priorities straight, it's really easy to stay on the straight and narrow" and thought "why don't these other guys get that?? Instead they just hit the bottle or shoot up or hit someone whenever they can't handle it.

And what I would call the most stereotypical Jewish family I know no less. One brother is Obama's chief of staff, another is a prominent doctor, and the third is an agent in Hollywood.

Anyway, being an anti-Semite in show business has to be pretty difficult.

Says the guy who just showed everyone where his priorities really are!!! Want to get your ass kicked, where a t-shirt in Cleveland with "LeBron is my hero" on one side and "Art Modell is a God" on the other!!    You'd be lucky to make it a block.

They were discussing temptations like women, drugs, violence, and a bad circle of friends at the time in the interview. He may only be 25 but his head is on straight with regard to that stuff a lot more than can be said for Mr. Gibson. I don't think Mr. James has ever hidden the fact that he's after money and being #1 in the game...that's certainly his priority.

We'll see what happens when he gets away from his Mom. She's the one that's been keeping his head on straight.

Once you attain name recognition and "Box Office Draw" status, personal beliefs are secondary. Trying to move up in the entertainment world without name recognition will be difficult for any outspoken anti-Semite or bigot (comedians may be the exception). Mel however has already attained Box Office status and is marketable and potentially profitable.

Professionals of Jewish decent have dealt with anti-semitism all their lives and have learned to separate business from their personal beliefs, as long as it stays behind closed doors. Once the rags get hold of it, it's cursed. I'm sure Mel knew of his future agencies heritage just by the name and don't you think the agency knew of his prejudice after making "The Passion of Christ"? The agency was smart to cut bait on this loose cannon. They risk losing other clients who may be Jewish and profitable.

How so? I'm the last guy to defend Hollywood types, but I don't believe that this proves that Hollywood is off its collective rocker. Mel Gibson, yes, but not necessarily all of Hollywood.

All they needed was an attorney, and the Emmanuel family would be the poster children for every last Jewish stereotype out there.

Even they are probably not true bigots for the most part. I'm not but that doesn't stop me from making wisecracks about racial and religious stereotypes.

Ari Emanuel seems to be one of the relatively few talent or sports agents who isn't a lawyer.

Not that his movies were stellar either. I remember having watched one of the "Die Hard" movies (the one set at an airport) with a bunch of (drunk) freelance aircraft mechanics. We were all rolling on the floor laughing due to all the inconsitencies and BS sprouted in the movie.

I'm not going to pretend like I know the whole story, from his perspective or his wife's. If Mel Gibson makes a good movie that I find to be enjoyable to watch, then I'm going to watch it. I couldn't care less about his personal life, it's not really any of my business. Maybe he's a jerk, maybe he isn't. I've heard a lot of personal stories about people who've met Mel Gibson, and say that he's actually a decent guy. I'll take those stories, like this story, all with nothing more than a grain of salt, because I've never met him, and I don't know his story.

Cheers,
Anthony/Airport

This guy has hit a preverse jackpot as to how to ruin a career not just in entertainment but any other place or work. Sexism, abuse of women, anti-Semitism, racism, drug/alcohol abuse, has conterversial religous beliefs and run in's with the law. About the only things that could be worse for him would be to murder someone, make a homophobic comment or be caught in a sexual way with an underaged women or any age male. He has ticked off such a broad range of people, who is left to support him? I bet his children and ex-wife even want to disown any connection to him (except for his money).

Mel Gibson needs to go off to a long-term residential rehab with his apparent alcohol and psychlogical problems. Then after that, just go away from the public view.

Just a creep.
Overrated as an actor.
Admittedly an element of schadenfreude with me given those awful, massively (even by Hollywood standards) inaccurate anglophobe films he's associted with.

He seems to have a problem with Jews, English, African Americans, Women and of course, the bottle.

The question should be - why is he still at least something of a player?
If the nonsense above about his 'crime' of making Christian films in Hollywood had any truth, how did be bounce back from previous offensive escapades - including anti semtic ones?
An answer from Babybus would be nice, clear thinking preferred if possible (not hopeful on that however).

I have no comment on Mel himself, but...

here is something purported to be part of the tape containing his latest rant.

Not a huge Melophile, but it sounds like him to me.

Crazy man.
