Where To Stay In Santa Barbara, CA

Sun Jul 18, 2010 4:30 pm

I'm going to Santa Barbara, CA next week (only for one night). Any suggestions in which area I should stay (at the coast, in the city etc)?

The Doubletree Resort Santa Barbara is pretty good. Its on the beach within easy walking distance of downtown/entertainment area (State Street), and the pier.

Enjoy your stay.

Yeah, one of the places near where State Street hits the water is probably best. Canary Hotel might be good if being on State Street but not on the beach is better for you. I haven't stayed there since it was under previous ownership, but it looks relatively unchanged.

The Santa Barbara Inn is right across the street from the Doubletree. Rooms on par with a regular Hilton or Marriott, maybe a little bit larger, for a much more reasonable price. A short walk downtown as well. I've never had their breakfast, have always driven down to Sambo's instead. Also well worth it.

Is Sambo's still there? I use to eat there several times a week when I lived I Montecito and worked at Tex Johnson Aerospace in Goleta. Working swing shift it was one of the few place open when I got off work.

It was there last time I went two months ago. For breakfasts and brunches it is the place to go. During this time of year, the hotels are going to be pretty full, especially on the weekends. As the beach and the downtown are within walking distance of each other, the hotel should be within walking distance as well. For a no-frills place close to everything, consider Hotel State Street or the hostel nearby with rooms well under $100. These are both located near the train station in between the beach and the downtown area. The other, more luxurious resort-style hotels such as the ones mentioned above are north of $200 but also in that prime location.

Hotel Santa Barbara is reasonable and on State Street. I've stayed there before and it is very nice.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Booked a motel today close to the beach and not far away from the pier.

Looking forward to Santa Barbara!
