Sat Jul 31, 2010 8:17 pm

Well, yes, it is that time of year again! Collage Football camps!!!!!

When does your school open football camp? What's the schedule like? Is it open to the public or no?

The University of Washington opens camp on Aug 9th, and it is open to the public. Media day is Aug 15th and is free!

Football is finally here!!! YAY!!! I look forward seeing Sarkisian and Locker tearing it up this year!!!

Go Purple, Be Gold. GO HUSKIES!!!!!

I think we open up camp on the 7th, but it might be the 9th. Two practices are open to the public (11th and 12th), with Fan Day (autographs) on the 21st.

Texas opens up on September 4th at Rice, played at Reliant Stadium in Houston.

While most would consider this to be a rebuilding year for Texas, and compared to our national championship run last year it will be, I still firmly expect us to be in contention for a Big XII title. Sophomore Garrett Gilbert will be at the helm, and he got a baptism by fire once Colt was hurt in the national championship. Most consider Gilbert to be a better pro prospect, as he's more of a pocket passer. Incredible arm strength and great accuracy. The running game should be favored more than years past, and I'd expect to see a lot more I-formation. Our O-line is a question mark this year, with a couple of newcomers. With less zone blocking, I think they'll do better than last year, but the personnel seems to lack that killer instinct. I hope I'm wrong.

Defensively we should be very strong, with our secondary (even without All American Earl Thomas) as a huge strength. Lots of depth. Interior lineman could be an issue.

Texas' two toughest games of the year by far are OU on October 2nd and @Nebraska on October 16th. Nebraska's defense should be great (I don't buy that they'll be better without Suh), but their offense is anemic, at best.

OU is OU, and it's a rivalry, so I expect it to be a close game. I think their offense will struggle more than ours will, and I don't think Landry Jones is anywhere near as good as Bradford, especially under pressure. They've got lots of questions at O-line, so I expect he will be. Defense will be good.

Only other games that I've really given a second thought are @Tech (just because it's Tech and it's on the road, early in the season) and A&M at home. A&M is improved offensively, but their defense outside of Von Miller should be abysmal. I'd be surprised if we lost that one at home, but it's a rivalry, so you never know.

Other than that, I'm just looking forward to destroying UCLA to avenge the 66-3 loss they handed us at home in 1997.

See my signature for my general feelings.

Too bad we don't get any College Football down here unless we pay extra to get ESPN America. Last season was for me one, where College Football was definitely way better than the NFL (though I still hate the BCS system). In any case, as long as USC and Michigan don't win the national title, fine by me.

I'm looking forward to the Nebraska/Washington contest in Seattle as I will be in attendance for that!!! September 18th is the date and will be on National TV!

I am still waiting for the day they get rid of that piece of crap they call of a "system" that is flawed with rules changing every year along with the Einstein formula they claim to have.

I think you missed the news but USC has been sanctioned this year and next year. They have to forfeit bowl games participation for the next two years and scholarships reduced as well. So you are safe, LTU!

Is it football season yet?

I cannot wait!!!!!

Don't think you have to worry about that one. USC isn't allowed to play in a bowl game this year, and Michigan is...rebuilding, to put it nicely. Based on those two schools, I'd assume you're a Notre Dame fan.

As far as watching it, www.channelsurfing.net, www.myp2p.eu, and www.atdhe.net will have most games between the three of them.

Yes, I did miss that part when I read about the sanctions against USC. All I remember now was about Reggie Bush's Heisman.

I think that was the main focus of it, that is probably why a lot of people don't really remember what sanctions USC got.

Who else is pumped up for NCAA Football??

Now for a cheer they are here,
triumphant!
Here they come with banners flying,
In stalwart step they're nighing,
With shouts of vict'ry crying,
We hurrah, hurrah, we greet you now,
Hail!

Far we their praises sing
For the glory and fame they've bro't us
Loud let the bells them ring
For here they come with banners flying
Far we their praises tell
For the glory and fame they've bro't us
Loud let the bells them ring
For here they come with banners flying
Here they come, Hurrah!

Hail! to the victors valiant
Hail! to the conqu'ring heroes
Hail! Hail! to Michigan
the leaders and best
Hail! to the victors valiant
Hail! to the conqu'ring heroes
Hail! Hail! to Michigan,
the champions of the West!

We cheer them again
We cheer and cheer again
For Michigan, we cheer for Michigan
We cheer with might and main
We cheer, cheer, cheer
With might and main we cheer!

Hail! to the victors valiant
Hail! to the conqu'ring heroes
Hail! Hail! to Michigan,
the champions of the West!

The only Michigan game I've ever been to was their loss to Toledo, at home, back in 2008. What an interesting experience that was!

And my school, Kansas State, will be starting camp here soon. I'd love to make it to a bowl this year, specifically, the Fiesta Bowl. However, no shot of that happening, so I'll take the new Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium. Easy access to there from ALB!

There is a new bowl game, to be played at Yankee Stadium. It has Big XII and CUSA (I believe, could be Big East, too) tie-ins.

As far as Kansas State, I'll have a cow if they manage to beat us again in Manhattan. KSU is the only school that really has UT's number in just about every sport. Ugh!

Today, I received a email from Washington (I get news and updates from the school's athletic program). They say that September 3rd is the College Colors Day 2010.

Is anyone else participating in that? I for one, will be participating wearing my Purple and gold!!!!

Ditto to those two and add Ohio State to the list.

Poor Texas, they may actually have a couple of tough games enroute to the conference championship again. Still, the last thing Mack Brown wants is anything remotely having to do with the SEC.

I hate to say it, but unless Alabama has a serious lapse at Baton Rouge, they will probably win the SEC again, and that means big trouble for the other guy in the BCS championship game.

Better than USC in the National Championship game.

BCS championship game.

Lets not call it that, the BCS is flawed and has been since day 1.

Just for the record, I wouldn't call the Nebraska game a tough game for Texas. Texas can handle Nebraska without any problems. If I were Texas, I wouldn't worry about Nebraska.

That chant at the K-State / Texas basketball game last year, "We Own Texas", puts that in perspective for ya!

All joking aside, I hope it's a close game. I really don't want to get blown out by you guys...

Nebraska's got problems on the offensive side of the ball, but it's silly to not call it a tough game when:

1) It's on the road
2) It's against a top 10 team
3) They're going apeshit up there because of :01 (complete revenge game)

We're the better team, and we've got Nebraska's number (we've never lost to them in Lincoln since the formation of the Big XII...we've snapped their 40+ home winning streak and 20+ home winning streak, and beat them on a last second field goal with snow flurries with a walk on freshman kicker.

When I heard that (mind you, that was back when we were actually good last season...you know, #1 and undefeated and such...what a death spiral after that), I thought to myself..."wow, Kansas State is really the only team in the world that can say that, and I wouldn't laugh." It really is pretty amazing.

Here's to hoping it's not even close from the opening kickoff!
