Fire Breathing Bartenders Face 45 Years

Thu Aug 19, 2010 4:47 am

Two fire-breathing bartenders face up to 45 years in prison each for performing flaming bar tricks.

Jimmy's Old Town Tavern owner Jimmy Cirrito said his bartenders have been entertaining his customers -- by juggling bottles of alcohol and spitting out streams of flames using matchbooks and lighters -- for more than a decade and no one's complained. But shortly after midnight on July 24, two of his longtime employees were hauled out of the Herndon bar in handcuffs and charged with three felonies each plus other misdemeanors

"They were being treated as if they were terrorists, charged as if they intentionally tried to burn down the tavern," Cirrito said.

This is the stupidest thing I ever heard of. The bartenders are facing 45 years in prison for entertaining their customers. There are many murderers, rapists, child molesters, drug dealers, etc. that face less time for their crimes but instead, they want to throw the book at two people who aren't hurting anyone.

That's Fairfax County, Virginia for you.

45 years does not equal "pussyfication", but they're going hard on the wrong people...

They were probably in violation of a number of alcohol license and service laws, fire laws, public safety laws just for starters. I suspect that they will not spend much if any time in jail or even find a jury willing to send someone for such a long time. Once again, we see Proscutitors overcharging again for publicity.

Maybe the prosecutors need to spend a bit of time in jail.

This would get struck down under the "cruel and unusual punishment" clause in no time.

Ding ding ding.

At most, time served and some hefty fines, assuming they're actually found guilty of more than just violating code.
