Just Lost A Good Friend

Tue Aug 31, 2010 2:20 am

I just found out that one of my buddy, Joe H who I served and personally knew him during my naval tour in Misawa, Japan recently passed away yesterday who was involved in a head on collision in San Diego last week in Mission Valley. Remarkably, he did survive the crash, but found out via facebook from his family that doctors were performing surgery and Joe caught pneumonia and the Docs could not save his life.

The story is here: http://www.sandiego6.com/news/local/...Friars/hzjGdN7icUqqKs-V200CJg.cspx (The video clip is graphic.)

This got me thinking. The driver who lost control of his truck, 70 years old, went across the medium and into on-coming traffic according to the article and struck his car at speeds 50 mph, roughly. My friend who told me said the 70 year old was driving drunk. He could have been drunk or not, so I am not speculating, but the article does not say this. I have read several past new articles where as more and more senior citizens are driving like maniacs and driving under the influence nowadays. I just wanted to let you know, always be safe, because anything can happen.

Rest In Peace, Sailor.

I'm sorry, Kevin.

I think these losses are among the most frustrating and agonizing. Your friend was driving responsibly, minding his own business, when someone crossed the median and hit him head-on. Even the best drivers in the world would have little, if any, chance to properly react. Complicating this is the fact that it seems at first that the guy that crossed the median shouldn't have been anywhere near the wheel of a car, for various reasons. It's a scenario in which any one of us could conceivably find ourselves.

Thoughts and prayers with you and your friends.

Sorry to hear about your friend Kevin,

I lost a good friend years ago to a drunk driver who did the same thing. It still pisses me off whenever I think about it. I hate drunk drivers with every molecule in my body!

Sorry to hear...I lost three friends to plane crashes in the last two years, all highly skilled pilots...Life can be grossly unfair at times with no answers. It is a tough position to deal with. Thoughts are with those that have lost loved ones...what a waste...

Sorry brother....prayers out to his family and friends. No logic to life sometimes, so we have to live as large as possible while still kicking.

Thanks for the prayers. I'm sure his family does appreciate it as well. I am still shocked the fact, that he is gone, but can't imagine what he has gone through and knowing that he is no more in pain. Goodnight y'all.

Things like this make you realize how your life or someone else can change in the blink of an eye. I have tried and I hope others do too that I try to live my life (maybe not everyday) to the fullest. I am going to see long lost friends now that my mom has passed away. I tend to over analyze things but I need sometimes to just say go for it and just take a trip just for me or do something just for me. I enjoy doing for others but just remember to take time to do things once in a while to make you happy. Life is short and this is proof it could be shorter.

I am very sorry to hear this. I live a few miles east of where the accident took place and I travel on Friars Rd. every day so I can't help but feel like it could easily have been me.

My thoughts and prayers to you, his friends and his family.
